Okay I have a Hyper 212 Evo and I just got a couple of SP120's and I'm going to put them in push/pull on the Evo, but they are the 3 pin version so I'm wondering will they run at full speed all the time and if so would it be better to plug them up to a fan controller rather the the motherboard?

they will run at full speed, I would put them on a fan controller.

Yes but a good quality fan controller adds to the cost of buying things, more management. Most fans are running 12v out of the box unless you have a complimentary 12v to 7v/5v like Noctua fans.

Adding a fan controller would help reduce the noise a fair bit.

Oh I have a fan controller already I just wanted to know if that was the best way to go. So I should use the fan controller?

CPU fans usually ramp up the rpm with increase in temp of the CPU!. I would suggest that you let them run at full speed or use some adapter to reduce them to like 1200 rpm but fan controllers are not recommended for CPU fan control imo.

Is there something wrong with using a fan controller on CPU fans?

Nope. As long as the fan controller has a thermal sensor attached to the CPU heatsink it's fine. You will have to fiddle around to find the best cap temperature to set on your fan controller but then it should work niceley.

Edit: what fan controller do you have?

who cares...

I wouldn't use SP120's personally, Corsair doesn't make the best fans. However, to answer your question I would use a fan controller.

I have the Sentry Mesh, and why would I need thermal sensors? Also, would it keep it cool if I had the voltage reducers on it. I'm not overclocking I just didn't want a stock cooler.

Should I just use the stock fan for now, put the SP's for my front intake or something, and just buy another set of fans that are PWM?

If you plug cpu fans to fan controller, you need to either adjust speeds by hand or config them to run at certain speed. That can mean that your cpu will run hotter than it would when fans are connected to mobo. But it shouldn't be problem in anyway.

I've just decided to let them run at full speed they aren't very loud, but thanks anyway!
