Hey! I was gonna record some gameplay, like any other day. However when watching what I had recorded it was all laggy, I thought it was just bad luck and decided to try again. Same thing, a laggy mess of a video. My FPS ingame is 100+ at all times. Yet the video feels like it's 20 fps.

And now the weird thing is, I havent changed anything in OBS. 2 weeks ago (when the last time I recorded something) everything was smooth and worked fine. The only thing I have done, is move the game from my HDD to a new SSD. But I dont see how that could cause this issue. I don't understand!

PS: If this is the wrong section of the forum, please move this thread to where it belongs.

-Thanks

Hi, what codec are you using, what recording settings and where are you saving your gameplay?

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

How to setup MSI Afterburner OSD | How to make your AMD Radeon GPU more efficient with Radeon Chill | (Probably) Why LMG Merch shipping to the EU is expensive

Oneplus 6 (Early 2023 to present) | HP Envy 15" x360 R7 5700U (Mid 2021 to present) | Steam Deck (Late 2022 to present)

Mid 2023 AlTech Desktop Refresh - AMD R7 5800X (Mid 2023), XFX Radeon RX 6700XT MBA (Mid 2021), MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon (Early 2018), 32GB DDR4-3200 (16GB x2) (Mid 2022

Noctua NH-D15 (Early 2021), Corsair MP510 1.92TB NVMe SSD (Mid 2020), beQuiet Pure Wings 2 140mm x2 & 120mm x1 (Mid 2023),

I record on my GPU (GTX 1070)

recording settings: https://gyazo.com/bc878bcabb28e6f474977e103aa7e76b

I save my gameplay just into a normal folder, and I watch my footage with VLC.

Well I have tried using that, but had many problems. Such as it recording my low res fourth monitor instead of my main. And all the footage gets a low resolution.

I'm pretty sure you can change that in the nvidia control panel or in geforce itself but I'm not certain.

Hopefully you sort it out but I highly suggest you stay away from OBS.

It is free on any platform for a good reason.

Yeah I made a thread about it here before, people said they know the problem already. However there is no fix if your main monitor inst in HDMI or DP, because geforce automatically uses whichever monitor is plugged into those (with the res) and my main monitor is DVI, and my shitty fourth monitor with bad res is in DP. :/

Are you using the NVENC codec for recording in OBS? OBS offers a lot more features than Shadow Play and uses the same codec if you choose to use NVENC.

Also, what version of OBS are you using?

I am using NVENC.

I am using the latest version of OBS. But like I said, I have been using OBS for monthes, with the same settings and recording the same game. Just today, when I started recording like any other day it was laggy. Not the game, but the video. I don't understand how that can be, with no changes made.

You didn't change anything other than moving your game from a HDD to SSD?

No Windows Update or new Nvidia driver or anything?

Fix: Had recently changed my live wallpaper (from the steam program) and apperently for some weird reason this made my videos feel laggy. I do not understand why, since my CPU usage is still pretty low, and FPS ingame is the same. However this was the fix for anyone intrested in the future.

If you were using something like Wallpaper engine for your wallpaper then your system could easily have been affected. Oh and please remember to mark as solved.
