Razer Tiamat 7.1 Headset

Don't get it, get headphones + cheap zalman clipon mic. Superior listening experience and it'll last longer than 2 months.

As much as i generally have to agree with this statement I've heard that this headset is actually pretty dang close to a setup of 7.1 speakers in surround performance. The one thing is YOU CANNOT BE USING ONBOARD AUDIO. This headset gets bad reviews from what i call the razer effect. Razer markets to the people who don't know what they are talking about (not saying they aren't good products they really are most of the time) then they end up buying this since it is the top end razer headset and it doesn't work because they are using onboard. Need prof. My group of friends at school have five people who have gaming peripherals Three of them have all razer and just like i stated before they all don't really know what they are talking about. If you are looking for surround gaming performace but need a headset this might be the best option, but if you are just looking for the all around good audio experince do the before mention headphone and zalman clip mic. If you really want a headset and the good audio experience use modmic.

Maybe if you're comparing them to Logitech "surround sound" computer speakers in a small bedroom.

I would say if your going for surround go for virtual surround, imo it just sounds better with one big driver.

So you can take this with a grain of salt as this is my first post on these boards but I do have a lot of experience with the Tiamat 7.1 as well as other headset and headphone options.   If your only need is for a gaming headset and surround for FPS or even surround for watching movies then I haven't encountered anything else with the capabilities of the Tiamat 7.1.   I was able to feel the direction of sounds in gaming better with them than anything else.

With that being said I no longer use them as my primary needs for headphones is music and the 7.1 just did not cut it for the music I listen to.

Again, I can only speak from my personal experience with the product, but unlike some I had no quality issues with the headset, or to be honest, with any Razer product I've ever owned.   If you're primary need is for gaming and surround, then I would have no problem recommending the Tiamat 7.1, but if you listen to music primarily, look elsewhere.

It's not so much the size that matters, but one high quality driver is better than lots of low quality drivers.

What other headphones/headsets have you listened to?
