I7-8700K Overclock help

I can get 5Ghz on my 8700k but only at 1.350 V, at which in aida 64 temps sore to 90 degrees or more on all 6 cores. I know it won't get that high in gaming but should I just run it at my current settings of 4.7Ghz at 1.264 V

I'd keep it at 5GHz and just get a better cooler.

Maybe just keep it at a lower clockspeed.

He doesnt need a better cooler, but to change the intel toothpaste to thermal paste.

Max fan speeds, max pump speed, swap the turbo jet crap on your cooler for something good and you can also delid if you want to really bring down temps

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

I'm not running max speed on the fans due to the noise. Running the pump at 100% for the amount of time I play would kill it ALOT faster. I haven't used the stock thermal paste. Not deliding as I like warranty

Then swap the fans for something that isn't crap, like Noctuas new Chromax series

Only way to get better temps than that (without resorting to custom loops) is to delid your CPU (and apply liquid metal).  Unfortunately, Intel doesn't solder the CPU die to the IHS and uses crappy thermal paste so this is what you get.

1. Delid

2. run at current speed

3. run at 4.7 (coulda just gotten an 8700)

pretty much in that order by preference. I know u said u like warranty but the cpu is the last part i expect to break within 3 years, pretty much stopped caring about warranty on the cpu.  By not delidding you are running it hotter and it'll be weaker when the warranty expires.

1.35v 5.0 is VERY good, grats.

90C really isn't a big deal, the 100C max exists for a reason. It's unlikely to hit 90C under a realistic workload anyway, and keeping 1.35V under 100C non-delidded is quite good anyway.

Maybe for an Intel fanboy

Don't buy Apple M1 computers with 8GB of RAM

I agree it's retarded that a H115i can't keep a sub-200W CPU below 90C, but the point is that 6-core Coffee Lake runs hot due to (as always) shitty Intel TIM. Worrying about temperatures below 100C means you'll lose a lot of sleep over nothing, tjmax exists for a reason, as does a user's warranty. Anyone who buys a 8700K should expect sky-high thermals unless they delid.

8700K is over 200W for overall power draw when overclocked.

Even more when it's running hot (power leakage)
