Hello ltt community members In have been having issues with doom recently.

I have been trying to play doom on my Acer XR342CK (3440 x 1440 @75hz) on my 980 Ti and i have been having the thing where the fps locks at half refresh due to inconsistent performance so I thought that my 980 ti was struggling so I thought fine as my card is a tad old and this is pretty high resolution and my settings where still maxed out from my old 1080p monitor, so I lowered all of the settings, however, no difference so I thought this was a tad strange so I brought up the ingame performance metrics to see what was going on and to my suprise the GPU was not the issue but instead my 5930k was the holdup as the graph for the CPU was constantly red and I have tried everything I can think of such as process priority and high-performance mode in windows etc However one thing that didm work is going back to 16:9 reolution like 1440p, however, I want to use my ultrawide properly. I hope you can help!

Many Thanks,

Max

Is your cooler fully functional? It sounds like your CPU is thermal throttling, which means it's getting so hot that it downclocks itself to avoid overheating and damage. Check your dust buildup, your cooler fans and pump, and thermal paste.
