B350 Tomohawk

Hi everyone,

 

I've just about pulled the trigger on a Ryzen upgrade on a very tight budget. My local Micro Center's cheapest bundle for the R5-1400 is with the MSI B350 Tomohawk and I"ve heard some bad things about MSI's AM4 boards and was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with this particular board and if it's any good.

Nowadays the majority of issues have finally been handled on the latest bios updates... you should be fine after fully updating it.

Another thing I forgot to ask about in my OP is about the Asrock B350 Pro4. I'd like to avoid having to flash a BIOS if I can, and I can stretch a little bit for that over the Tomohawk. Would that also be a good board, or will I have to flash the BIOS either way?

yes that is a good board but you will more than likely be flashing either way to get ram stability.

You're going to want to flash any board you get. Especially with such a new platform. Who knows how old the BIOS is on it. It could mean the difference between a stable system and a buggy one.

Highly recommended over the msi offering... at least you're ensured a good overclock on the CPU and Memory to ensure you get the most out of the system, as you know Ryzen requires you to go all in to defeat its limitations.
