I just got a new TV for Christmas which supports 4k and 60hz, however I use a fairly cheap PC as a media system since I never liked the apps that come with these TVs (I would much prefer standard Netflix, vlc for files, less adverts on YouTube etc).

However, the PC only has a hdmi 1.4 port. This means I can only display 4k in 30fps.

Are there any decently priced, low power gpus with 4k and 60fps support? The one I've found so far is the 1030 GT, but I figured I'd ask the experts before throwing down nearly £70 on a gpu that could possibly be replaced with an option half the price.

I'm not entirely sure what my system is, but I know the psu has no pcie power cables so it would have to be powered solely through the motherboard. Im also unsure what my psu is. I'm pretty sure it's a 240W but I could be wrong. I bought the PC a while ago and can't find any information on the internals anymore.

I can provide more details once I'm home, just ask if there's anything you need to know.

Thanks.

As far as I know getting 4k60fps with HDMI is hit or miss even with 2.0 compliance hardware.

GT 1030 or RX 550 capable doing it, but it still doesn't guarantee you'll get seamless experience.

I'm not going to worried about power, unless you are using FX 8000/9000 and R9 390x.

If i7 + 1060 only consume 150w on average, it will be much lower with lower spec hardware.

also, why not just use Display Port.

The TV doesn't have a display port.. Port?

My only option as far as I can tell is hdmi. I mean I'm fine with the better picture quality of the new TV at 1080/60, but it would be a shame to only use the 4k capabilities on the rare occurrence I play games on my ps4.

Get an HDMI to DisplayPort adapter?

That's totally understandable, the only thing to do is try it, if you lucky enough you might find a store that would accept return if it's not working as you expected, if you are getting GT 1030, most of that card only had 2 output option, either HDMI / VGA or DVI/HDMI.

Would that work? If there are stability issues with using HDMI, wouldn't introducing adaptors only make things worse?

I needed a new TV any way, I only went for 4k because it was only a little more and buying a 1080 seems like a bad idea, future-wise. I just didn't realise the PC I use wasn't quite up to scratch. Getting 4k is a bonus I'd really like, but not something that'd make me send the TV back.

As long as the 1030 isn't going to give me power problems, I may give it a go.

Actually the dongle DP to HDMI thing is more practical and make sense than buying new GPU, assuming if you already have a GPU that had display port.

I don't , right now I only have onboard graphics, Intel 530.
