This is my first post on this forum as I don't know anywhere else where this would decently fit. But I have been using Verizon Fios for awhile now, and want faster speeds. Currently I have 50 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload. I called Verizon and they said this is the only speed they offer in my location, and I want to know if it makes more sense switching to cable and getting a 200 mbps download. If it helps, I live in an apartment building but knowing the people in here, they won't be doing much HD streaming or downloading any large files.

Xfinity. Also, They have the 200mbps bundle with more TV for the same price as the firs 50/10mbps so price is not a problem.

If the price is the same but the performance and features are better, it seems like a no-brainer to go with the cable ISP - as long as there are no extra hidden charges like huge install fees etc, or gratuitously long contracts.

Cable isn't intrinsically worse than fibre, since neither are currently being tasked to their limit in any residential deployment.

You'd be dealing with Comcast then.

I don't normally have too much trouble with them, but their support is absolutely cancerous at times. around 4/5 times, you'll end up with someone that just tries to restart the modem remotely, then sell you crap that you don't need. Then there's the chance you get someone that actually can try to help.

If it's the same price, I'd go for it.

Keep in mind the price will likely jump up a bit after a year or two. The real cost is hidden in a more info button or something of the sort under the plan.

Comcast AKA Xfinity has a 1TB bandwidth Cap in some areas. Just keep that in mind. Verizon does not cap at this time. Also, Last time I checked Verizon FIOS is Fiber and is symmetrical meaning the download and upload speeds should be the same.

Forgot to add. If you get TV then you also have to pay:

Broadcast TV fee

Sports Fee

$9.99+ a month for each box

If your stupid and get phone service expect to pay for a modem as well. Because its hard to find a Digital Voice modem retail that Comcast will allow and still lets you use the voice service. Oh and prepare for the some the shit customer service.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

definitely don't switch if you will get a data cap from switching, data caps are CANCER and should have been outlawed (maybe Net Neutrality would have survived if it banned data caps), I like TV as much as the next person but not enough to get stuck in a 2 year contract, to many better options out there, I personally use Philo at $16 bucks a month and it has an unlimited 30 day DVR and all the channels I watch and none of the stupid expensive sports, news or locals stations, it's got some room for improvement like launching apps for other devices besides iOS and Roku and adding a Guide to something other then the web interface, but the quality of image is decent and the price to selection can't be touched. Also no hidden fees because no cable box fees or crap like that.
