Used. RAM has ridiculously good warranties.

I'll save you the trouble of posting in every section.

The only things I wouldn't buy used if I planned to keep the system for longer than a year are:

Storage

PSU

Yo I bought Zowie EC2-A used for around 20$ and it works hella good - you just want to clean them properly before you start using them!

Haha, I still find it gross and would just pony up the money for new.

Yeah... depending where you're buying it used of course. I wouldn't necessarily trust some craigslist people if they don't prove it works first or when you meet them they seem like a good hearted person. Ebay and other online sources, obviously look at the sellers ranking/rating.

i have seen peripherals with an actually measurable thickness of gunk on them.. since then we have a biohazard bin to chuck those in at work :P

(PS: yes, we actually do have a biohazard bin, advantages of the medical sector include really good practical jokes)

Yeah well you have to ignore the thought that the last owner might (probably does) have  been touching his genitals while using the thing you just bought...

Ive had calls for "my mouse isn't working right" where I go and check... the bottom of the mouse is gunked up with crumbs and what not... clean and it's good as new somehow! (minus the crap that gets stuck in the scroll wheel, I'm not touching that.)
