Which motherboard

Swegly

Asus Z370-F

or

MSI Z370 SLI Plus.

Aesthetically I like the Asus motherboard more and it also has Asus aura sync which will work good with my asus graphics card and rgb ram.

Was wondering if the difference in cost of 70$ between these two boards is worth it? Thanks

Looks good. Nothing I would change

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I'd get an asrock K6/extreme4 or Asus Z370-A and use the money for a better cooler, but otherwise it's fine.

Is the Z370A the same thing as the strix but with back RGB lighting instead of on the front as well silver accents? What cooler would you recommend rather than the h7? The s340 elite cannot mount dual rads ontop so I think ill have to go air cooling. I wouldnt mind switching case but I havent found anything I like as much as the s340 elite

Looks good, though I would go for 8700 non-k following my discussion here:

Also with 8700 you do not need beefy cooler, while cryorig c7 is nice cooler if this will be cheaper you can take CM Hyper 212 EVO. Also motherboard is not an issue with 8700 non-k you can take a cheap one as VRMs will not be so highly heated as with overclocked 8600k. If needed to bring down the cost I would consider 2TB HDD instead of 3TB just to get 8700 over 8600k. It really is IMO better option.

The i7 8700 is 100$ more than the i5 8600k. The hyper 212 is also the same price as the H7.

I don't think the 8600k is a good option, it actually bottlenecks in some games (already) because of a lack of HT, also if you are gonna spend over 1500 on a build, just go with the 1080 ti, that way u can turn the settings down to game at 4k 120hz next year if you wish, whereas you are "stuck" with a 1080 when that happens.

I regret my 8600k purchase ALOT, i did another 8700k build right after.

I would go with this, similar price as ur 8600k build, btw, u can turn on MCE, turn the bclk to 102 and have a 8700 running at 4.7, no 8600k oc will beat that.

also the price difference between a sata and nvme is 30dollars, just get the nvme, load time is similar but everything opens faster. (mainly browsers)

Hows this build look? Ill take the i7 8700 instead of the 8600k, however Ill just run the stock cooler in the beginning. Also, the GTX1080 is already going to be enough power for me to play at 1080p/144hz so I dont want to spend more money on the 1080ti.

Also why the M.2 SSD? I dont understand the difference between that and the 850 EVO. If its just faster Im not gonna pay that much more because the 850 is already faster than I need.

the mobo chart is here if you are interested, they strix all have the same color scheme, if you are getting the 8700, u can focus on other features instead of overclocking.

the mobo chart is here if you are interested, they strix all have the same color scheme, if you are getting the 8700, u can focus on other features instead of overclocking.

Also why the M.2 SSD? I dont understand the difference between that and the 850 EVO. If its just faster Im not gonna pay that much more because the 850 is already faster than I need.

i know there are videos saying that m2 doesn't improve much over the sata ssd, but opening browsers faster and generally "snappier" on desktop is worth it for me.

It's 30dollars for newer tech, and ya, browsers lol, they barely help in gaming over the sata ssd, like 3-5% load time improvements.

oh ok. Im so confused, why is the i7 better for purely gaming. The 8600k is much cheaper and I can get a cooler as well.

for most modern games, even if the cpus are not loading at 100%, the 8700 beats the 8600k by 5-10 fps on almost every game.

Also there are games (long list) where the 8600k are at 100% already (future games?????), this is with the 8600k at 5.2 and the 8700k at 5.1ghz, delidded chips bought from SL.

My main concern is when the 120hz/4k monitors come out, the 8600k MIGHT bottleneck in some games, whereas i have no doubt whatsoever with the 8700/k

also i barely see a difference in gaming above 4.8ghz, or the % clock change is just too little, the 8600k is 25C cooler than the 8700k at full load (the 8700k doesnt get to full load in gaming so actually about 15-20C) that's about the only advantage of the 8600k.

Also what if AMD manage to clock zen+ up to 4.4ghz on 6c/12t, the 8600k is gonna get outdated really quickly.

anyway, just stuff i'm pulling outta my ass lol.

I will always play at 1080p/144hz though, So new monitors coming out wont affect me. In that case should I save money and get the i5

only the video card will be affected from the jump from 1440p to 4k, when it boils down to it, let say u are getting 135fps on the 8600k, u can expect 140 on the 8700. Also as mentioned before, 8600k is running 100% on some games (Ass creed origins, dragon age 3, wildlands/shadow of war pushes it to 90). It might actually bottleneck you further to a 10-15fps deficit for future games instead of the 5-10fps atm. If you are comfortable with that then the 8600k is fine.

How will the i5 bottleneck a GTX1080, that doesnt make sense

o i keep thinking about the 1080 ti. ya, it's only an issue around 125+ fps, with vsync you will barely see it, i think the 8600k vs 8700k videos on youtube will explain it better, on games like ashes or civ you are cpu bound, it's only a small % of games, but they are current games, not future games.

I mostly play esports games. When I do play other games they are games like battlefield 1 or PUBG
