Tensor core usage

If one buys a titan v or other card with tensor cores, for the compute capabilties of its 5100 cuda cores,  what are the tensor cores doing while running cuda compute task?   Are they fully seperate cores that are just idle?  Could other software utilize them in parrallel with the cuda cores?   Likewise, could they possibly used for ai decision trees in games?

Yeah they wouldn't be used unless something utilizes it. It's sorta like the VID on GPUs. Also tensor cores are really good at training not simulation, that's still done on the GPU. So technically you could use them to train as you play so yes the game AI could become very complex over time

I can see possibly using tensors with Folding or mining... maybe.

My understanding of tensor cores is they are just primarilly used for nueral networks, and that the basic calculations they are doing are just 4x4 matrices.  I did read that they have to be enabled in the frame work  to be used. I'm thinking that with the right coding you could enable these cores for crypro. Using matrices  could be significantly faster than standard stream processing with fpu's

I don't think so, most crypto doesn't use matrix multiply as far as I know (RSA is a lot of modulus and math, AES is a block cypher shuffling algo)

Tensor Cores are amazing at inference and training, if a game implements their NPC ai behavior as a reinforcement neural network (think bots making decisions), then you could  run a lot of NPCs behavior at once on those cores.

My understanding was that matrices can be used to speed up most ×/÷ functions, not just those specifically designed for it. I undersrand the tensorcores are good at  running training algorithms, but those are just math at the end of the day
