5850 vs 7770

hate starting a topic for such questions but oh well.
Ive got a (dell oem, made by sapphire) 2GB 7770 and its alright, does what I need...
...but we always want more powerrrr!!!
i feel like im going to be limited by the core power before iever get close to needing 2gb of vram.

so I can trade it in and get an xfx 5850 for pretty much the same price. (£57 for my 7770, buy the 5850 for £65),
going on numbers the 5850 should blitz it
stream processors 1440 vs 640
texture maps units      74 vs 40
ROPS                         32 vs 16
memory bus             256 vs 128

theres also a gtx295 for £60, its old but so is my gtx285 and its still good (not sure if i'd miss dx11) and i could add it to my collection of "legendary cards from back in the day"

the 5850 core clock speed is down at 725ish vs 1000 but its not half and i hear they overclock pretty well.
but they have different architectures, GCN vs VLIW5 (if anyone knows how much this matters please do tell).
my head tells me than GCN is awesome and allot more efficient and new drivers REALLY help, but is it enough to make up for the difference between these 2 cards?
the 5850 is kinda between the 6850 and 6870 and i wouldnt be surprised if its flashable to a 5870.

on note of power consumption ive been running gtx285s, gx 260sp 216's and various other cards so having a card that draws twice the power doesnt bother me so long as the performance difference is substancial.

if anyone has a benchmark of bf3 that is comparable of these 2 cards please share. B)

the 7770 is about the same to a 6850 (maybe the 7770 is a tad better) so based on that u can tell if its worth it or not. id say save up for a 7850 since its quite a bit better and the deals for those is pretty solid

Yea the 7850 would be my choice, just save up for another couple of weeks and purchase that instead

laid off a few months ago (work when i can get it) so saving isnt much of an option (yeah im working on it) otherwise id get a 7850, in fact i thing the bang for buck is pretty equal all the way up to r9-290 (not 290x) and i am the kind to save to get what  want and i will pay twice as much to get twice as much...but like i said not currently an option.

the 5850 should be more powerful than 6870 on a clock-clock basis, its basically scaled up but with lower clocks
6870-(1120:56:32)=140:7:4
5850-(1440:72:32)=180:9:4

but im still wondering how differnt it will be architecturally

If you can't save for a 7850, i would go with the 5850.

hmm trade for 5850...
...or sell it for £49 (just checked prices) and put it towards a 7850 for £97.....or get a r9-270 for £130 (thats £33/30% more)
is the 270 30% more powerful than a 7850?...(after some math its 25%ish more powerful)
7850 makes more sense on paper....hmmm, guess i have allot of thinking to do tonight, thanks guys its appreciated.

dont think being unemployed affects performance

the only gripe i have is having 2gb of vram but i feel restricted by the gpu and 128bit bus before i can use it.

the older card is only 1gb but its got double tha bandwidth, looks like i might trade it and get a 7850 at this point.

to close(for anyone coming across this from a google search)- trading it for a 5850 probably makes sense, the 5850 is still pretty beast, but at the moment id probably be better off selling it for £50-60 and saving up another £50 and getting a 7850, the upgrade bug should die down a bit then for a while.
