Go to solution Solved by Tiberiusisgame,

I agree with the call for a 4790k because you have a Z97 board. You can OC it, you'll have 8 threads, it'll keep for a few years before you upgrade your graphics card.

Yep on his profile it says he has an Asrock Z97 Anniversary

Are you for real? his current board is a Z97 and all it needs is an i7 4770K or 4790K to make it a much better machine.

Yeah, 4 generations late, no ddr4, no nvme, no usb 3.1 etc. Longer upgrade path.

+$150 for new processor make sense.

But if you have enough to build new one, why not?

Spec him a system for $350 that is a worthwhile upgrade to what he has and gives him a measurable performance boost with his 1050.

because its not worth the money. you get much more for your money by buying a 4790k + SSD than new ram, new cpu and new board.

will he really  use those features tho ???

Does it matter if it's 4 generations old? the 4790K is still an absolute beast in gaming and if you compare it to the 6700K there really isn't much in it.

$350 - the new system

sell old parts :

8gb ddr3 + pentium - $50 + $40 --> extra 8gb DDR4

z97 - $150 ---> NVME ssd

you got yourself a new beast pc.

You're banking on OP being able to sell his current gear. Also, your logic doesn't track. What is RAM + Pentium - $50 + $40 > DDR4 RAM? What does that mean?

He’s saying, spend the $90 he’s get from those parts on ddr4 ram.

No i'm not, the $350 already covers everything OP need.

Selling old parts just to add the specs up.

8gb ddr3 ($50 used) + pentium ($40 used) --> extra 8gb DDR4 on top of 8gb already in the list

Also, Lol @ OP for posting for suggestions in a forum then blindly ignoring the 90% of people telling him to just put in a new processor.

I don't see a spec listed anywhere on page 1. I see you suggest he buy a new Ryzen system. Am I blind?

For real, op, if you want the “best you can get for $350”, like you said you would, then you’d be dumb to do anything besides buy a 4th gen i7, sell your pentium and whenever your unhappy with your gpu, sell it and put that money, plus the money left over from that $350 and buy a 1070/1160 if it’s out by then. Do that and your computer will SHIT ON whatever new platform pc you’d get for a $350 upgrade. Plus, the 4770/4790k will be relevant for at least as long as the ryzen 1600/ whatever new Intel processor you’d get with that budget.

Also, your main argument of “and what will I do later, be stuck on a dead platform and have to upgrade?” Makes NO sense. You’re telling me the reason you Want to blow your money on upgrading to a new platform is so you WONT have to upgrade to a new platform? Seems legit.

Get this. Literally EVERY platform is a dead platform, eventually. Having that money to spend in the next 3-5 years when you’re looking to upgrade will be WAY better than having your funds invested/ties up in a platform that’s new today and will be dead end by the time you’re planning to upgrade next time.

You think that’s the best price you can gets 4790k at? Lol I literally just bought a 3770k and 16gb of ram for $200 shipped. A 4670k, 4690k,4770, 4771, or 4770k would all be suitable upgrades as well, if you really can’t get a 4790k for less than ~$250.

Op, check out r/hwswap. Much better than eBay, IMO.

Yes i understand 4790k is a beast of cpu, just throwing another alternative.

If i were him, i would just upgrade to new system and be done with it.

yes, bc putting a Samsung 960 ssd is the top priority for ALL the owners of 1050tis. Maybe he should upgrade to a 1900x in case he wants to add a 1950x to get 16 core performance with that 960 ssd and 1050ti, today... xD
