So I recently just bought an AMD A10-7860K and noticed that there is no change in performance from my previous cpu which was an AMD Athlon X4 860K. I typically play Garrys Mod a lot and thats where i notice it a lot. I do have Windows 10 Pro but am not quite sure if I still need to install some type of driver for my cpu. I know it isnt my gpu because its a EVGA 980Ti SC and I have 16gb of HyperX Fury Ram. Please let me know if I need to install other drivers or something else in-order to get better performance. Links will help also. Thnks in advance!

Setup Currently:

Case: EVGA DG-76

Mobo: ASUS

CPU: AMD FX-8350K 3.7Ghz

RAM: 28GB HyperX Fury

HDD: PNY 120GB SSD & WD Blue 1TB

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 980Ti SC (Reference model)

PSU: EVGA SuperNova 750W G3

Heatsink: NZXT Kraken x52

Peripherals:

Mouse: Logitech G502

Headset: Logitech G930 Wireless

Keyboard: Logitech G810 RGB Romer-G

Monitors:

AOC 19"

there is no performance difference because those CPU's are basically the same...and both arent anywhere near fast enough to properly feed a GTX 980ti in games.

i will repeat what i_build_nanosuit have said

the reason why you dont feel any difference from the two CPU/APU

is because they are internally produced the same die/wafer in the manufacturing process

the A10 has the iGPU part while the 860K is a cut down version of the A10 without the working iGPU during the binning process

during binning

they will pick the working APUs and label them as A10 and goes down the line as the grade drops

A8, A6 and A4

and the APU without any working iGPUs will become the Athlon X4 CPUs

hence you see the 860K which is the A10 non-iGPU version.

see if u can find a 2500k/2600k for 70dollars, a 4.5 2500k will bottleneck the gpu much less than the i5 2400.

I found a 2500k for $70. Are you saying that I should overclock the cpu to 4.5?

yes, either a 2500k, 2600k, 3570k, or 3770k overclocked to 4.5ghz would be suitable for that card.

Just wanted to list all the options since you are buying used.

Do note that you will also need P67 or Z68 (iirc) or Z77 chipset motherboards to fit the processor and support overclocking.
