Hello everyone -

Looking for directions to a computer hardware career that makes some decent mulah. I'm a hands on kind of guy, tried coding before (python) and was garbage at it. Mathematics is the absolute bane of my existence and I will go out of my way to avoid it entirely if possible. All I have in mind is to be is a system builder who gets to work with hardware and put stuff together, maybe even do some system stress tests and overclocking and whatnot. Not entirely sure if Puget Systems offers that kind of deal, even if they did I wouldn't even be able to go there for a job (I live in Northern New Jersey)

Trying to plan this from the beginning so no mishaps come down the line. (I'm a freshman in high school)

What are your thoughts? Recommendations?

are electronics or computer courses offered at your school?

the majority of classes involving "computers" are just programs like basic modeling, designed so anyone can do it, so no. nothing at my school catches my attention so far. maybe when I'm an upperclassman there will be something.

That's exactly what Puget does. You're not going to make bank doing PC assembly/stress testing/overclocking, though. Probably $15/hr USD at absolute best.

lol at this point anything above min wage will suit me just fine

You shouldn't aspire to have a shit labor job that pays fuck all. Go to Uni or get into an apprenticeship for a trade. Don't waste your time with anything else.

By the way that reads it seems as though you see programming and mathematics as being strongly coupled?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

Life is all about doing stuff you don't want to do. Its not easy, nor will it ever be. If you want to be hired in a job of your choice then you need a degree.

More or less. One could always choose to live off of the government and have everything that they desire bought for them by the taxpayer (at least in the UK).

Indeed, the world does not owe you anything. It's upto you to go out into it and to take what you want from it.

However this is completely untrue. I've known many who have gotten into the software industry without a degree and some in particular who were higher up the food chain than myself.

Out of interest @RorzNZ... Why did you quote me with all of that?

Computer system building like that isn't really a lucrative career. If you want something that has more potential, an electronics technician, like someone who can prototype PCBs or do basic troubleshooting of issues, is better. I'm not inclined to believe it involves a lot of math because all of the design is done by an electrical engineer, but you need to at least be able to understand the basics of electronics. Basically if you think you can do repair work like what Techmoan or 8-Bit Guy does and then some, then you can be a technician.

Because I've seen way too many people throw their lives away. Its sad and it makes me angry. Sorry if my opnion was a little harsh.

You've not answered my question at all:
