New Camera/Camcorder Advice

Hey guys,

A friend and I are planning on starting to film some of the stuff we do outdoors, for various reasons (possibly collaborating on a fun youtube channel), and I really need some advice on getting started. 

For filming, would I go with a DSLR? Or is that more for pictures?  What would be something good to film with that costs around or less than $500?  I'd be shooting outside, in various light, and possibly in different weather conditions.  It's fishing, hunting, ice fishing, stuff like that which I'm going to be filming.  

 

Any ideas?
