Definitely could have done some things different/smarter (assuming you bought it all recently) but if you're happy with it then that's all that matters :)

Gee, thanks. First response and an implication that I'm not smart. Nice.

Nah, didn't want it to come off like that. Just saying things could have been done differently but it's still a great build.

I would have swapped a couple things around for maximum frameness with regards to the games I play and in regards to RAM and CPU BUT that doesn't matter too much. A first build and it's still extremely solid.

I have well over 100 hours in research here. I am 100% confident that as long as I don't lose any of the proverbial lotteries, that I will achieve 60+ FPS on 2160 benchmarks with reliably safe operating temps. I went for latency over speed, knowing that the Platinum are excellent at OC. There is no better GPU, in my opinion. It's completely subjective, but I could not be happier, and will enjoy some schadenfreude after the benchmarking.

What I really want, is some build log pictures, benchmarks, and you to play some damn games and bask in the glory of amazingness that is your first build :)

The GPU is perfect, the CPU is always going to be a debate, especially right now, but with prices for the 8000 series all over the place, I think the 7700K is the safer bet, plus you did the research yourself, you didn't come and ask for people to make you a build and then (as I've seen a few times) ignore everyone or complain that X, Y, and Z you didn't specify anywhere else, aren't up to your liking or expectations.

I probably still sound like a jerk so I'll be quiet and wait for pictures :D

Yeah, it didn't come off as condescending to me anyway. Just said that there are some things you would've changed, that's entirely subjective and ANYONE could have that debate, it's not saying the OPs build is wrong at all. It's just an opinion, and surely that's what the OP is looking for?  at least in my eyes that's what this thread is for.

Anyway OP, just enjoy it, everyone can be criticized for their choices, doesn't mean it's worse at all, just we all have different opinions on what's more important in a PC, and have preferences for brands and such. I don't think @Lurick was dissing your build at all. All dealings I've ever seen from him are genuine and helpful mostly. Like me he probably just would have tweaked a few things to get the best for the money is all.

Please quote my post, or put @paddy-stone if you want me to respond to you.

It's a solid build and it will run very well. But this is what I've would have done:

Gone with an I5-8600k. Six core six threads and better single core speeds.

Change the wifi card to support ac. You can get one for around 30$

Thermalright Le Grande Macho RT is the best air cooler on the market second to only the FUMA. It's around 50-60$ (Cheaper than the nocuta) is more silent than the noctua and performs better than the noctua.

I also would've gone for the 1.1tb MX300 from Crucial. Speed difference isn't noticeable and it's better value :) If you're only gaming, then an NVME drive isn't worth the premium. You don't really notice the speed differences in average uses. (unless you're doing content creation! Then you'll notice)

Would say something about the RAM, but since it's dominator platinum's (Which I am only slightly jealous about), I won't say anything :)

That's just my two cents. The build will work out great. Good luck, mate!

The Wifi is just a crap throwaway that I am forced to install because I am building while on a work assignment away from home. The Wifi here is N, so I got the cheapest "quality" I could buy (it was $25).

If I went with Thermalright, I just wouldn't have the same peace of mind. I will never regret choosing Noctua, regardless of price. And besides... baby poop brown - gotta love it!

Something about the Crucial statement hit me funny... and then I realized that I have TWO parts I haven't bought yet - I haven't bought the 850 Evo 1TB SSD yet. Duh. That's the only part I have left to choose, is what I meant to put at the creation of the post. This isn't just a gaming rig. This is a NAS and Smart Home hub, so I may end up going with two or three SSDs in RAID configuration, which would mean going for more storage (10 to 15GB or so) for less $/GB. Can't believe I missed that (and then I was really thrown off by the first comment).

Man, did I lament the RAM choice for a LONG time. I finally realized I needed to just pull the trigger on something - that I would never come up with the "right" answer for Speed vs. CAS latency vs. price vs. capacity vs. aesthetics vs. price (holy shit, these things are expensive) vs. timings vs. what I can get out of an XMP profile vs. what dies are used, etc etc etc. The CAS10 kept calling me... and I have a Titanium mobo - the Dominator are going to look incredible!  Alas, it's a no glass case, but I will know it looks amazing :-)

As for NVME, this will be a Facebook Machine mostly. May as well go with the fastest I can get. Can't afford a U.2 right now, or I'd have gone that route. Some day...

This is a killer build OP.

I agree with the choice of Noctua. Those that haven't owned Noctua are not aware of their prestige. Excellent packaging, unmatched fit and finish, excellent warranties, and that feeling of quality the moment you tough the cooler. I have that same cooler on my i7-6700k in a Case Labs BH7 case and temps stay a cool 60c @ 4.8ghz while gaming.

The Corsair Dominator Ram is one of the classiest looking ram sets available right now. The LED light is subtle without being overkill like trident Z RGB modules.

Samsung SSD's - FTW

EVGA - FTW - The 1080 ti FTW3 has shown time and time again to be a stellar overclocker while keeping temps in check. 2 slot design is sleeker then any 2.5 slot design.

TP-Link - *barf*   :P

MMMMMM Noctua fans. - To bad they moved production to China resulting in a slide in quality. I recently bought some Noctua 120mm IPPC-3000 PWM fans that were Made in China and boy was I disappointed. Nothing like the old ones made in Taiwan. There are some videos on YouTube indicating the differences; Minor but noticeable.

Enjoy it.

I7-7700k@5.1ghz + 1080ti @ 2050mhz + 32gbs Ram + 2TB SSD = CSGO

i7-6700k@4.9ghz + 980ti @ 1501mhz + 16gbs Ram + 1 TB SSD = Backup

i7-3770k@4.8ghz + 680 4gb + 32gbs Ram + 500gb SSD = Retired/Office work

I have read about the Taiwan/China fan debacle. I'm not too worried, as I think it's mostly a color situation more than a performance situation.

Yeah... I won't use wireless once I get home, TP Link or otherwise. This baby is gonna be gigabit!

Can't go wrong with Samsung, IMHO. That being said, I cannot wait for Intel to release the U.2 to partners!

I am NOT a fan of RGB and LED, so that will be turned off on the Dominator.

Thanks for the compliments... I will have build pics soon (though that $800 card is gonna take some time).
