Handrake Transcoder

I'm looking to build a PC whose sole purpose is digitzing my DVD/BLURAY collection.

 

I don't want to spend big bucks max ~$900 form factor is unimportant, but I'm very conscious of the slow transcode times I'm currently getting on my aging system (core i7 4790). Currently I'mmriping using MakeMKV then transcoding to 1080p just to economize on space on my NAS.

 

Mostly, I'm looking for advice on motherboard/cpu combos, possibly leaning towards an older Xeon processor? However I have no preferences and will go for anything, though I believe Handbrake is a thread limited process which is what leant me toward Xeons. I might eventually use this as a Plex server, but I'm undecided.

Get StaxRIP instead of a HandBrake and if you got an NVIDIA Pascal or Maxwell card you can accelerate the transcoding with GPU and use the NVIDIA NVENC H.265.

 

It is more tricky to setup but this video should help.

 

The settings in the video are nice quality considering that you will make 3GB-4GB .mkv file from a 25GB-30GB BRrip from MakeMKV.

Alas I currently have an AMD Firepro graphics card.
