Hi I'm trying to choose a storage device for my budget build but unable to decide between the two. Should I go for Intel 32gb optane with 4tb of WD black HDD. Or should I go for a 4tb Seagate firecuda SSHD?

Which one is better?

Thanks for anyone's advice

250 GB SSD + 3 TB HDD

of the two optane would be better, but a small ssd and a large storage drive would be better

Which is cheaper? Performance wise, you probably won't be able to tell any considerable difference. Myself I would go with the SSHD simply because it will always be the speed it is. If you ever get a SSD as a boot drive, the optane won't work anymore as the optane can only be used on your boot drive, where if you get the SSHD and make it a secondary drive, it will still be just as fast.

You would probably be better off getting a SSD as a boot drive and a smaller HDD for storage

Neither.

Optane is stupid and there's zero reason on why u should get an SSHD as they are not worth it.

Just get a Sata SSD for OS and Programs and HDD for storing data.

And dont buy the WD BLACK its so expensive, do yourself a favor buy the Blue version and save your money.

Take a look at Crucial's MX300 series, they're great value. Stick Optane where it belongs, up the tailpipe :P

The FireCuda only comes in capacities up to 2TB, so if you need more storage capacity than that, you're going to either have to look at another solution or a combination of the FireCuda and something else. One consideration with the FireCuda is it comes with a 5 year warranty whereas most standard desktop drives only come with a 2 year.

If you'd like to see how different drive types stack up in comparison with the FireCuda, here are a couple of charts you can look over:

The first one compares startup times across several popular games on a traditional spinning 7200 RPM HDD, FireCuda, and an M.2 SSD (128GB). The white is for SSD, the orange is for FireCuda, and the gray is for the 7200 spinning HDD.

Startup Times

The next one compares the first 3 days of gaming storage utilization across several popular titles, and SYSmark ratings from various drive types and combinations. First of the grays is 7200 RPM 1TB spinning HDD, second (lightest gray) is FireCuda, third (darkest gray) is an SSD + 7200 RPM HDD combo, purple is SSD + FireCuda combo, and lastly blue is SSD.

First 3 Days Gaming Storage Utilization

Regardless of which route you determine is right for you in the end or what brand/drive you go with, thank you for considering Seagate!
