How to remove water cooler?

I need to replace the thermal compound on my CPU but I need to take the water cooler off. Do I need to do anything before I take it off?

No, you can just remove the pump/block. Why do you think you need to replace the thermal compound?

Yeah, just remove the screws holding it on the motherboard then re apply. But like GodlyGamer23 said, why do u need to re apply thermal paste?

Agree, what makes you think you need to replace the TIM?

There's nothing to it, just make sure you have some isopropyl alcohol (you can buy it in drugstores/amazon etc, even injection wipes are OK) and some good paper towels or some microfibre cloths. Unscrew it, wipe off the old gunk, use some alcohol on the microfibre cloths to clean the heatsink and cpu lid really well, reapply paste and re-attach... but I recommend you look at some videos to see first as it's your first time.
