  • Thin and light
  • Good battery life
  • Good build quality
  • IPS panel
  • Upgradeable RAM and storage
  • A CPU that can handle light video editing.

Refurbished is on the table.

All that for $600? That, my friend is a fairly tall order. Right now, I'd say go for one of the new Raven Ridge(Ryzen mobile APU) laptops.

Why are all of you recommending laptops with graphics cards? I never mentioned gaming and they don't really help with light video editing.

Because premium laptops with the specs you listed are all going to come with some form of GPU. You aren't going to find a good laptop without a GPU in that price range unless you start finding some seriously good deals. Good battery life in laptops started with Skylake generations and only improved from there onward for starters...

The one people are recommending most eagerly is well over $700. If I were to rephrase, the emphasis seems unnecessarily skewed towards performance.

It's because you want ALL of those specs in a laptop and most laptops that are going to have a color-accurate, IPS panel are going to come with a bit more than what you're looking at. That's not a bad thing, and it's not going to hinder battery life at all, at least not with the newer tech out. Often times battery life is unchanged or improved since they massively overcompensate for the addition of a GPU with a faaar larger battery.

This one machine is a flawless choice for what you want in a machine. Yes it has a GPU, but it's got lightning fast storage, great screen, good build quality, etc. It ticks all the boxes. The review from Notebookcheck shows said laptop is exceptionally good value for the money paid. Just buy now, wait for it to be in store and they'll ship it to you when they have it. Better to buy it now and save rather than wait and potentially get screwed because the prices went back to "normal".
