x399 vs x299 MOBO's

Hey guys,

I find myself in a situation here, I want to change my CPU for a one with more cores and I have been watching videos of the Threadripper line from AMD and they seem to be a good value product with good quality, so I'm looking for a 1950x, the issue here is that all of the x399 motherboards have a lot of mixed reviews, where the good ones are okay but the bad ones are because of big issues, however, x299 motherboards, as expected, I guess, doesn't seem to be struggling with that problem because all of them have mostly excellent reviews. The thing is the most I can spend is for an i9 7900x. So which route should I go?

I use my computer for 3D rendering, modeling, and gaming. But it`s mostly for work.

Is the Zenith Extreme really getting mixed reviews? Sure, it is pretty expensive but as far as I'm aware no one has said anything bad about the Zenith. It's hands-down one of the best X399 boards if not the best, but like I said the price is pretty steep, enough so that the value offering of threadripper might not be worth it anymore compared to X299. If you want to go for something cheaper, I'm pretty sure that the X399-Deluxe and the X399 Taichi get really good reviews as well. But I would stay away from anything Gigabyte or MSI, they're crappy for the AM4 lineup (belive me, I own an MSI and hate it and a lot of people hate their gigabyte am4 mobos) and are arguably even crappier for X399. I think it's mostly due to their use of the shitty Foxconn socket instead of the LOTES socket on their mobos. Anything from Asrock or Asus should be really good though.

edit: forget everything I just said and get the 1950x + zenith NOW because the zenith is $150 off on newegg and I'm pretty sure the 1950x is several hundred off bc of black friday on amazon as well: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813119003&cm_re=x399-_-13-119-003-_-Product

The Zenith was not a fun board in the early goings. Not surprised to see the mixed reviews. It's still not perfect, but much improved from day 1. I think the story is the same for all the X399 boards. Lots of new platform growing pains. It was to be expected for some, but others felt at $550, it was supposed to be flawless.

Yes I know, but when referencing early reviews, the early price is more relevant.
