Ditch the FX?

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

Yea it was the first thing I checked, we even went as far as swapping the gfx cards from the machines, no effect. We both have the same 22" Acer X233W monitor and all the same settings in game, another thing we noticed is that my cpu will sit around 20% max usage in games while his will hit 50~70%!

Yea I am ocing the crap out of this chip, 4.7 stable with 1.38v prime 95 40hours + 53c full load temp though it seems like ocing this chip has diminishing returns, past 4.2ghz the returns were less than a percent.

It might be due to you possibly playing some heavily single threaded games. In that case, just get a 4670k. There's little point getting an i7 for gaming.

Well as the title says I'm considering ditching the fx CPU I have and runing a 4770k or something similar.
My current build:
Cpu : 8120fx
Mobo: Asus sabertooth 990fx rev.1
Ram: 12gb visiontek 1866(ocd to 2000)
SSD: Kingston hyperX 120gb
HHD : 2TB WD
Gfx: 2x6790

edit *

PSU: 750 watt xfx bronze cert

Should I just go with the new 9000 series or is the difference in gaming very noticeable and should I swap to Intel? The only reason I am asking is the fps with my 8120 is abysmal! A friend of mine with the same gfx cards is running an i5 2500k and running on average 25fps higher than me!

Intel are much better on single core performance but I think upgrading to an R9 series card might help you. Are you also sure that you are running in crossfire and not only using one of your two cards?

Setup: i5 4670k @ 4.2 Ghz, Corsair H100i Cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB Ram @ 1600 Mhz, MSI Z87-GD65 Motherboard, Corsair GS700 2013 edition PSU, MSI GTX 770 Lightning, Samsung EVO 120 SSD + 2TB&1TB Seagate Barracudas, BenQ XL2411T Monitor, Sennheiser HD 598 Headphones + AntLion ModMic 4.0

I would, bulldozer is not the best.

Never go 9000 series and yes swap

He might be running it at lower settings.

the architecture of bulldozer is fail, worse perfomance than previous phemon 2.oc won`t help .
