Display seems messed up

Im sorta freaking out because this has never happened to me before. I checked in device manager on display adapters for gpu and it says the drivers are up to date. Please help.

What's your GPU and have you tried running anything to look for artifacting and lag? Suspecting either a GPU failure or just a burned-out monitor here.

I have a gtx 970 and it just happened during a windows update.

That changes things a bit.

 

Run a benchmark test. Also, try to verify that your update completed successfully, failed/half-complete updates can do really weird things sometimes.

Has the monitor been struck? Is that a remote possibility (even if you didn't hit it, it might have been knocked over by someone else and put back).

What kind of benchmark test? Gpu test like Haven?

It could just be that your monitor is busted, try plugging it into a separate monitor or a tv and see if the problem persists.

From the heaven benchmark it goes through everything with a rainbow of different trippy colors with brief flashes of what it should look like. Fps stays around 70-90

Yeah, plug it into something else. If it sticks around? GPU. If not, monitor.

Would it be noteworthy to say that boot screen looks normal but when windows launches it is all screwed up?

It has gotten really late so I can't move stuff around. Thanks for everyones help. Ill try sorting this out tomorrow.

Your monitor seems to have developed a liking for psytrance! I recommend checking that windows update, maybe do a system restore and update again or re-install the update. 

 

To test, you can uses the same cables, same accessoriies, just plug into a different monitor. test it out. if it s the same there then you can try using a different cable (either a new one or a different port like vga/optical instead of hdmi its the cheaper diagnosis option). if you still have an issue, then you may just have a video card issue (I recommend checking the different output ports incase you find that one of them has been damaged)

When you get into the Monitor's settings (via buttons) go to "DDR" and change it from "Line" to "Samsung"(or something else like that).

It may turn off for a minute.

I'm curious, I've read everything tried to date ...

 

Could you try HDMI cable swap out ?  

Can you also try monitor on another computer with windows booted ?

Can you try the graphics card in another system ?
