If you motherboard has two slots (or more) and it supports 16GB or more of memory, than yes.

If it has dual channel support, it can even make those two sticks of memory run together for theoretically double the speeds.

 

Both these things are quite likely, check the motherboard manufacturer's website for this info.

Oh yeah, laptops are a whole different story..

I couldn't quickly find some official specs, but unless we're talking about Acer's modern high(er) end offerings, they usually only support up to 6-8GB.
