Yes

That monitor is capped at 60 Hz over HDMI, you need to use DisplayPort

I purchased this build at the start of the year and have never gotten around to the issue of my monitor only running 60hz when I expected 144. I have a BenQ ZOWIE XL2730 27" WQHD 144Hz LED LCD monitor and a MSI GTX 1070 8GB.

If I change my resolution to 1080p and only use up like 2/3 of my screen then I can use the 144hz feature. I'd happily use 1080 but I don't know how to remove the black bars.

Sorry for not being very knowledgeable and any help is appreciated.

when you get the display port bare in mind you might still have to set 1440p144hz manually on nVidia custom resolutions in control panel

"ezpz" right? How about learning stuff before writing wrong stuff thinking you're doing much? DVI-D even in dual link does not have enough bandwidth to support 2560x1440p at 144hz, only Display Port can be used in OP's case.

Do you have to be such a hateful bitch? I mean really?

So, I misunderstood what he was actually asking. But still, get that horseshoe out of your ass.
