Is this a bad thermal paste install?

My dads old AMD A10-5800k had heat problems (Here's topic on that:http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/29348-amd-a10-5800k-running-at-very-high-temps-need-help/)

We gave out and just bought a new Intel i3 3250 CPU and ASUS H61M-E. I took a look at the A10 and it looked like this

This looks like a TERRIBLE install of thermal paste to me.

1- Get a better thermal shyte and apply it correctly

2- Clean that poor mobo T_T

3- I think that heatsink support a second fan

1-Thermal shyte? like a thermal pad? I use thermal paste?

2-Yeh

3-Also yeh but it doesn't include another bracket.

No wonder it's overheating, with thermal compound like that.

1- Ja; thermal shyte = rulin thermal paste (like NT-H1 or MX-4) (It would be better if you apply a good thermal paste too)

2- Nice

3- Ghetto modding is your friend

1-thought so

3-i guess

Uhh...ewww.  For the direct contact pipes (like this) you need to apply a small amount on the cooler to fill in the gaps first, then the rest on the cpu...my Xigmatek DK2 was not doing so good until I did this, and now runs like a champ....

This is how I apply TIM on heatpipe direct touch coolers:

1) Scrub the base with a spare toothbrush dipped in alcohol to remove old TIM in gaps

2) Place tiny (as small as possible) dots on the middle of each heatpipe.

3) Place the cooler on the CPU and give it a little wiggle left and right

This should solve the bad application problems.
