Razer BlackWidow Ultimate 2013 OR Ducky Shine 3?

JonnyOnAPony

Which would you recommend? (Going to be playing games...if that helps?)

I considered the blackwidow at some point, but now I got a shine 3. You can compare it as the blackwidow being a cheap car while the shine 3 is an ultra-sturdy turbocharged tank. It's quite heavy, has extremely good backlights, a very study metal backplate etc. I highly recommend taking the shine 3 ;)

I have a DS3, a couple of DS2's, a couple of Filco MJ2 Ninja.......and I'd still be buying keyboard. But, I'd NEVER buy a Razer, as I don't believe Razer keyboards are worth the asking price for them. For example, a Razer BWU 2013 costs more than a DS3, and just a smidgen below a Topre Type Heaven. That's why, in my growing collection, I have no Razer keyboard......in fact, I'll be getting an all yellow DS3 MX Clear tomorrow. I don't foresee a Razer being added to my collection in the near and distant future.

Why not? :/

The Shine 3 is just better than a BlackWidow in so many ways. The only thing that the BlackWidow is better than the Shine 3 is that it has macro keys. That is pretty much the only thing I can think of where the BW is better than a Shine 3. Everything else the Shine 3 is just better: build quality, PCB, casing, controller, key caps material.

BUT the Shine 3 is a lot more expensive and you do not see a lot of discounts on Ducky keyboards. For BW you see some discounts every now and then. If you find them for the same price, then go Shine 3. The only time I would say go for a BW over Shine 3 is if you can find a BW that is at most $70. No joke. That is the most I would ever pay on a BW Ultimate edition.

I have both and I like both.... lol. I like the media control on the BWU. But yeah most people are right about the price... its abit over the top Though it justifies the amount of advertising they do compared to the rest of the brands. I guess they need funding from somewhere to sponsor all those teams and the marketing they're doing. In terms of build quality the BWU is not bad, I don't see anything wrong with it and it's already been a year since i have it and is being used daily by my brother. My say in this is... maybe you should try it out for yourself. If you like it, good on you. and if you don't and have bad experience with it.... you have the chance to tell other people about it.

I don't see the fuss people make when they haven't tried it out themselves. Word of mouth is sure is powerful, but i'm not a believer until i experience it myself hehe  :P

I tried the blackwidow for like a second and it didn't feel completely "mechanical" for me, a little mushed out. I ordered a shine 3, which was 50 euros more than the blackwidow where I live, but I couldn't be happier with my choice.

Simply because Ducky Shine 2 or 3 is more well-built, and simpler to mod with colored key caps than the Razer BWU 2013. Also, let me reiterate that while you may come across posts where some have tried the BWU 2013, but have jumped onto a DS2 or DS3, you don't hear the opposite happening, at least, I've not come across any. Besides, depending on where you're from, a BWU 2013 may cost more than a DS3......like in my neck of the woods for instance.

Let me be more succinct, I am NOT saying Razer keyboards are crap.....just not worth the price they expect you to pay for them.

I'm Ducky biased, but I have tried the blackwidow widow 2013 before I obtained the ducky.
The blackwidow keys seemed to be wider imo... my finger position wasn't correct and felt quiet awkward.
The ducky was just a perfect fit ,as I wanted a simple keyboard layout without macros on the sides
