This is just something I've been thinking of for a good while now and was interested in having a discussion about.

In regards to manufacturers such as Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, and so on, I was curious as to what all other peoples preferences would be for.

Me personally, I have a strong preference for MSI motherboards. When it comes to gpus I prefer MSI, but I'd also go for EVGA gpus as well, although if it went that route I'd want an EVGA motherboard to match things, matching brands being an OCD of mine when it comes to pc stuff.

In all the pcs that I've built for myself and ones I've built for friends of mine I've always gone with MSI motherboards and haven't had any issues at all with them (same for the others I had go with MSI motherboards). As for gpus my main complaint with them really is I don't like the red and black dragon design, it making it hard to go for any other themed build, although their new gpu design with the three fans I think looks a lot more impressive.

I suppose if I wanted a red/black color scheme, I'd get MSI. They're pretty good at that.

Otherwise, I get whatever has good reviews, has a good price, and has the specifications I desire. They all make good parts, but they also make crappy parts.

I suggest Asus motherboards. They have a decent EZ mode and an ADVANCED advanced mode. It's really easy to flash BIOS and even flashing via the internet. I also recommend the Z170 Pro Gaming lineup.

I've never really been into Asus that much, I'd probably consider their gpus, but their motherboards I'm not sure. I do see that at times they can make a pretty solid product, but at times cut many corners and release something that feels really cheap, like some of the AM4 motherboards I've heard many issues about.

That was one of my big complaints about MSI, them being really restrictive when it comes to the theme, it almost always being black and red for their high end products. Although I got a gaming pro carbon, that motherboard isn't locked down to that theme, and I can change the rgbs to whatever. although considering my pc is currently a star wars dark side theme, the colors are black and red anyway :/

next pc build I do for my main pc I want it to be a SW rebel theme, most likely using the white and black NZXT h700i case, the components inside would be black but would have blue rgbs

EVGA has incredible customer support, at least in the US. It's 24/7 and you get to speak with a human being, every time and extremely quickly. Both EVGA and Amazon really know how to take care of customers. For motherboards, I find ASRock or Asus to be strong and reliable companies.

It all depends on what you want, I have literally built thousands of machines and never had a Gigabyte board die within the warranty period.  Before TigerDirects crash and merger, Infotel Distributors was the parent company, I bought Gigabyte, MSI, and Biostar though my corporate account with them.  Since 2002 I have had maybe two failed boards in systems I built while still under warranty and they were Asrock.  While working for Acer, I saw tons of DOA Foxconn boards.  But many brands have high-end and low end models, and just because your buddy got a really sweet Ford Mustang, that doesn't mean the Ford Focus is the same quality.

resd all the waay .

they have the best aftersale service i have come across i have tried my luck with gigabyte aswell

and OCing on asus boards is much easier(or might be a perk as i was on gigabyte x58 and jumped to asus with z170)

but i found the adv. modea on asus much more intuitive and freeflowing as compared . ALso ROG forums is nearly as active as this one

-Motherboards, i've always used Gigabyte, I used them across my last 3 gaming PC's. The last 2 boards are still going strong, despite having moved on from my possession. Currently on an ASUS board, seems alright. Mostly went with it, because the Gigabyte ITX boards lacked features, where as the ASUS had a lot.

-RAM i've always liked Kingston, been using their RAM since probably 2004, never once had an issue with them, though I did switch to GeIL for DDR2 on my Core 2 Duo system in 2006, that was solid RAM, never once had an issue with that, but all my DDR, DDR3 & DDR4 RAM has been Kingston branded.

-GPU's has either been XFX (back when they made for Nvidia) Gigabyte or EVGA, i'm likely to stick with EVGA due to warranty & price to performance of their GPU's, and I just prefer their aesthetics.

-HDD's i've always gone with WD, as i've never had a single issue with WD drives, where as Seagate i've had too many issues, I think that's just bad luck though.

-PSU's I personally like Silverstone, mostly because they were the only SFX PSU's on the market at the time I bought the ones I am using now.

-Cases, i've been using SIlverstone for a while now, good build quality on their higher end cases & I picked up 2 of the three I own  really cheap second hand, despite they both look brand new & one came with the retail box & all accessories.

-CPU's i've been using Intel for over 10 years now, as I had too much bad luck with AMD back in the early Sempron & Athlon 64 days which turned me off AMD completely.

-SSD's i'd have to go with Samsung, easily the best SSD's i've used. I've had, Corsair, OCZ & Intel ones, but i'll be moving to Samsung from here on in I think.

-Coolers, I personally prefer air coolers over AIO's, and I really like what Noctua offers. Saying that I have a H80i V2 by Corsair in my main PC which does a pretty good job, just it is bulky & annoying to install & remove when I need to do stuff in my case.

-Fans, Noctua all the way. I personally like the cream & brown colour scheme, heh.

-Mice, I've always used Razer, apart from the brief period I had a Steerlseries MMO mouse. Never been let down by my DeathAdder.

-Keyboards, again i've mostly used Razer, was never a fan of their membrane keyboards I owned (they were free so whatever) I also owned a Logitech G20, which was okay, but I didn't like the narrow keycaps. Now I use a BlackWidow Ultimate with Cherry MX Blues & it hasn't let me down. I am considering getting a Blackwidow Tournament Chroma cause I wouldn't mind going ten keyless.

For motherboards and graphics cards I always buy Gigabyte,. The only reason why my current mobo is an Asrock is because there weren't any available to preorder at launch for a reasonable price. I have bought a total of 18 Gigabyte motherboards and 5 Gigabyte graphics cards and none of them have given me any trouble. For PSUs I'm a free spirit, buying from the one that's cheapest and has decent reviews, but I tend to favor Corsair a bit, not even for all the flack the original RM and CX series have gotten through the years, and they are all working fine in clients' PCs and also in mine.
