Best way to extend fan wires without soldering

Joveice

Hello,

I'm going to extend some fan wires and I wonder what is the best way to do this without soldering?

My first idea was to just twist them together and use electrical tape over the open area, this would work but isn't really that good of a solution.

you can buy extensions...

the wires aren't connected to a header, and I got a header with wires on it. so instead of getting a new header I wan't to use the existing one > wire on wire

I don't have a soldering iron nearby, I will try to get a hold of one tho, but if I don't I need another way.

You could even use telecom connectors / gell filled butt connectors.

You can use terminals

4012491_Luesterklemmen_Kabelklemmen_12_S

The metal parts goes in from both sides and is then connected over the metal innards and screwed down.

The terminals are connected with plastic, you can just cut off however many you need.

Make sure the end of your fan cable is as solid as possible though, maybe strip it down a bit and make a knot or something

before you put them in.

Terminals would work but they're bulky. Extensions would be more sexy.

Another option would be to insert a bit of heatshrink tube and twist the wires well and then put the heatshrink over the place where you twisted the wires and shrink the tube (with a ligher, or over the kitchen stove, or even a matchstick and sometimes even a regular hair dryer.

The shrunk tube would keep the wires twisted and wouldn't look that ugly (compared to electrical tape)

Twist them together and fold the twist back on to the wire and tape it down flat.

Anything can work, just depends on what you feel like doing. Won't matter in the long run.
