What monitor should I buy?

Hello LTT Community,

i have a system with GTX 1080 TI,

should i buy a ROG SWIFT PG248Q with 180hz G-Sync or a ROG Strix XG258Q with 240 hz FreeSync

i know G-Sync is from NVIDIA and Freesync is from AMD but what should I take? It is the same price.

I'd go for the PG248Q, GSync is worth the price more than 240Hz IMO.

PG248Q. but why 1080p?

I won't buy either because both is TN. I won't trap inside the 1ms respond time and get the TN panel.

 

5ms or less in IPS or VA is far than enough and you won't notice much differences compare with 1ms but it came with great color and display output compare with TN.

The monitor is only 24", 1080p is pretty fine on it, I don't see the need go for 1440p or 2160p for 24" size monitor.

yeah but at 1080p, it's more cpu bound rather than gpu... so a 1080Ti for 1080p is just a waste. why not just get a 1070 for 1080p....

The OP own 1080 TI GPU, why OP need change to 1070 just because OP prefer play games in 24" monitor? lol

 

You can use DSR if you really must push the GPU to limit. You get superb fantastic output by using the DSR feature.

I dont think he is suggesting the OP should change to the 1070, what he is saying is what was the point in him buying it in the first place if he isnt going to take advantage of it. he is asking why he didnt just buy a 1070 if he is going to game @ 1080p.

Buying 1080 TI not means must go for higher resolution, some more the OP asking for 24" size monitor and OP already own the 1080 TI not OP plan to buy it. I believe not everyone fancy on big screen monitor (I do fancy and prefer bigger screen). This is user choice and not fully utilize the GPU to maximum not means it is a waste. Why need to go lower performance card just because I may not able to fully utilize it.

 

I can set everything maximum with maximum AA or playing under DSR, in this case it never waste the GPU power. Also games graphics keep increasing, no harm buying a 1080p monitor for more future proof the 1080 TI GPU.

While it is a little inefficient to get a 1080 ti just for 1080p, I agree with you that he doesnt have to get a higher res monitor just because he has the better card. I was simply helping you to understand what SeanAngelo was trying to say.  If I was OP and I could afford it, I would go for at least a 1440p monitor, but I imagine he has a reason for going 1080p, whether it be personal preference or budget.

Maybe if it was a 60Hz display you'd have a point. But even a 1080 ti is light years away from pushing .1% lows above 144fps

buying a 1080 TI graphic cards means you're going to get a 4k or 1440p monitor there's no other way around it. if u want 1080p get back to 1070 otherwise it's a big waste of money.

I suggest you get IPS with higher refresh rate. For example those 144hz monitor. Highest refresh rate helping a lot in gaming.

 

By the way this monitor is good just it is a normal 60Hz monitor. You cannot feel the differences on gaming at 144hz and above.
