144hz with HDMI to DVI?

Hello! I have a laptop that only has a hdmi 2.0 (i think) port and no displayport or dvi port. I want to hook up a 144hz monitor to it but cant find out a way. The only way I have found out is by getting an HDMI - DVI adapter. Can someone confirm if this is true?

Won't work, if you have a monitor that only takes 144 Hz over DVI and a laptop with only HDMI, then it is impossible to get more than 60 Hz on it. I suggest getting a different monitor if you can. If you don't have a monitor yet then I suggest you get one that supports 144 Hz over HDMI, such as the ViewSonic XG2401.

I have been searching for monitors that have 144hz over HDMI and they are borderline impossible to find. I dont even know where to look to find if it supports it. Do you guys think you could give me 5 or 6 monitors that support 144hz with hdmi to look at or tell me how i can find out myself? Thanks

Over HDMI:

ViewSonic XG2401 supports 144 Hz out of the box

AOC G2460PF supports up to 120 Hz (requires a custom resolution, it won't appear as an option at first)

Nixeus NX-VUE24A or B (identical monitors just with different stands) supports up to 144 Hz (requires custom resolution)

Samsung C24FG70 / C27FG70 claims up to 120 Hz HDMI support by the manufacturer, I haven't tested

MSI G24C claims up to 120 Hz, haven't tested

No any HDMI version in the last decade (since HDMI 1.3, which was released in 2006) can do 1080p 144 Hz if the manufacturer chooses to support it, it's not dependent on HDMI version, just manufacturer choice.

 

Also, this HDMI to DisplayPort adapter can connect you to a DisplayPort monitor at up to 1080p 120 Hz which can open up a lot more options for you, but adds a fair bit of cost to your purchase overall.

I dont think I would ever go above 144hz 1080p until I build my new pc next year so I'll buy the ViewSonic XG2401 monitor. Thanks for the help
