Oh bejeebus! $470 - about double the cost of an 8TB drive for over double the cost - That's a no from me.

Nah. RAID0 isn't worth it and other types of RAID reduce capacity.

Not all RAID's reduce capacity significantly. RAID 5 only takes away one drive's worth of data, but gives you the ability to lose an entire disk before rebuilding and rebuilding is done quickly.
