Upgrading to Ryzen

Hey guys, currently I just have a crappy G3258 and H97M Board. I've been starting to play more games on my PC and want to play stuff like Battlefield and PUBG.

I've found this combo for a Mobo/CPU/Ram. It's a R5 1600, Asus B350-Plus and HyperX Fury 8GB RAM. I currently have a r9 280 3gb, will this setup be good enough to play games like BF1 and GTA?

I do plan on upgrading my GPU later on once I have some extra money, thanks

I'd second the recommendation for a 1060 or above. That system should run games just fine with that card, though your present one is also perfectly usable.

At the moment ive got a r9 280, and yeah I was thinking of getting a 1060/70 later on but would the R9 260 be good enough?

Why don't you get a 4790? It'll perform quite a bit better compared to Ryzen.

That combo was around $550AUD so around $550-600AUD Max

You should be using resolution=1920x1080 since you're pushing more work to the GPU with 1440 and not allowing the CPU to do more work.

all right, you can get a gtx 1060 3gb and you can get an intel core i5 7500 for a total of about 535 AUD, the rest you can use for buying ram

Try to get two sticks of 8GB with speeds around 3000MHz. Everything else sounds good.

That's out of the box which is irrelevant. Most Ryzen 1600 owners will overclock and the 4790 can't even be overclocked unless someone is desperate enough to try BCLK overclocking, which gets them virtually nothing. So for most, the Ryzen will handily out perform the 4790. So no, it doesn't perform better at all in reality but worse. It's also worse at anything other than gaming at stock speeds.

1600. 1700 will stop at the same point that the 1600 and 1800 achieve.

Okay, I was just reading stuff saying that later on hopefully games start to utilize all 8 cores of the ryzen. But probably is overkill

By the time they do, AMD will have fixed all of the issues Ryzen has including the clock barrier.
