if i moved a hdd with windows installed already to a new build would it boot windows normally?

im currious if i need to buy a new copy of windows or not to save some money. so would windows work normally or would i need a fresh instal for a new pc

if you're using Windows 10, it will look at the new devices and get all the necessary drivers together so it can boot properly.

Yes, No, Maybe with problems.

 

You can always try and see but it is always recommended to do a clean install.

my copy of windows arrives a couple days after all my hardware gets here so i was just currious if i could use my current hdd for the first couple days

depends on if gpu drivers are installed, if the answer is yes, delete them and install the ones you need *unles you are not switching graphics cards

Go ahead and give it a go.  worse case you have to put it back in the old rig and wait a few days.

You are asking a loaded question.

 

There are so many variables at play here.

 

Personally, I would never drop an OS drive from one machine onto another.

 

Why don't you just download the media creation tool for Windows, create the boot drive with a USB key, and just run Windows in trial mode until you get your copy in the mail?

 

That way, you can start using your new machine. You have I believe 30 days to activate anyway.
