Noctua D-15, D-15s compatibility with motherboard

Riddler25

I am planning to get a noctua d15 for my new build, but I heard it might block my top pcie slot. Is it true? Should I go for D-15s or do I need even smaller cooler?

My build consist of -

  • 8700k
  • Zotac GTX 1080 Amp Extreme
  • Z370-E
  • Cooler Master Masterbox 5 MSI Edittion

Noctua d15's do have some issues. I'd recommend going for water cooling instead, takes' up less space on the motherboard, and is ideal for a processor with the horsepower of a 8700k.

I agree with redwood. You should probably go with water cooling. I would recommend  the NZXT kraken water cooler. I myself have a big tower air cooler and it does block the top PCIE slot so if you need to use that slot you should definitely get the AIO.

Edit: My cooler is the Phanteks PHTC14PE which is similar in size to the Noctua d15.

It blocks 1st slot. But with your mobo that slot is PCIe x1. Meaning that if you are getting card with big backplate, you are not using that slot anyway. So either one. I don't see point of going AIO if thats only concern.
