I'm testing out a system for my brother and whenever I turn it on, it boots to windows and works just fine. But after starting BF4 or Overwatch, it shuts down mid game, without notice...almost like a power outage

The computer specs are

Fx 8300

Hyper t2 cpu cooler

Gtx 770

700w power supply that supply that can supply 44 amps to the 12v rail

gigabyte GA 78lmt usb3 motherboard

8gb dual channel ram 1333mhz

@ me if you want me to respond  :))

sounds like you're tripping some sort of protection. overheat or overcurrent or overvolt (likeliness in that order from top to bottom). not GPU side of thing. either VRM or CPU imo

Could it have anything to do with the ram I have installed?

very very very unlikely. it's running at the most basic DDR3 speed and ram doesn't cause sudden shut downs. it can freeze the system completely if it has a problem. but it doesn't shutdown

Usually for this kind of "sudden power shut off" and not BSOD, it's usually PSU. Other parts would usually goes into BSOD.

  • 1 month later...

Definitely the Motherboard. There are countless people on google search that have the same motherboard and are experiencing the same issue.  As well i Have the same motherboard and also am having the same issue.

I just ordered a ASUS M5A78L-M Plus/USB3, hopeing that this will clear up this issue.

When it shows up I will be sure to let you guys know if this fixxes the issue. Hopefully trying to narrow this problem down.

CPU - AMD FX 8320

MOBO - GA-78LMT-USB3 6.0

GPU - Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 TI

PSU - Thermaltake TR2 Series - 600W ( Went to the store and bought a new PSU to make sure it wasn't my current PSU causing the problem)

UPDATE

Installed the new motherboard today. and it FIXED the problem of the automatic shutdown, found out that 12v rail on the Gigabyte board was faulty and when to much power was flowing to the motherboard / CPU.... BAM shutoff.

hopefully this helps anyone who is looking for an answer, and to all... don't buy gigabyte products lol
