The Ultimate Bottleneck Computer (help)

So I'm planning to upgrade my computer to a really nice (and expensive) computer for gaming, extreme multitasking, video editing, cad, 3d modeling and pretty much everything. my current system specs are: fx 6350, 16 gb ram, 2 gb gtx 670 it works but it sucks for the amount of stuff i do.

 

I would like to get a gtx 1080 and a i7 8700k + 16gb ram. but since I can't buy all my parts at once i have to buy a Cpu or a Gpu first. I'm fairly patient so price isn't too much of a problem...

 

So I'm left with 2 options;

 

Buy the Aorus Gtx 1080 first and use it with my old fx 6350 + 16gb ~$540 https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Mg4x4C

 

OR

so what option would be objectively better? price-performance... rgbling... loudness...

I don't really want to hold anything back, I'm have mostly upgraded everything else so the Cpu, Mobo, Ram and Gpu are the only things i haven't upgraded yet and I prefer to have the VERY BEST.

Save up and buy them all at once.

I'd grab the 8700k first because every gpu generation has fairly large performance increase whereas with cpus it's 5-15% usually. It would suck to buy a 1080(ti) and then a few months down the line have a new card come out with similar performance for half the price.

So you've got a double edged sword with this one  The 1080 is the better choice and you'll notice the increase in performance more but, it's been awhile since Nvidas released a new gpu and they might be fairly soon. The cpu would be a noticable upgrade from a 6300 for sure then again though the only boards out for it are the top of the line expensive ones so you'd be overpaying on sata and usb ports for the most part. Not to mention finding an 8700k for the right price. If I was you I'd save up wait for Nvidas next conference I can't remember what it is though I know its fairly soon if they don't show off a Tesla then grab the 1080 if they do then grab the cpu.

What do you need the most ?

are your program's using more CPU Power or GPU Power and then decide.

 

If your decision is mostly based on the Gaming side of view then buy the GPU first the 6350 is a huge performance decrease for the 1080(ti) but if you don't plan on playing 144hz then you could life a few month more with the 6350 i would say.

 

i was using my 1070 for 4 month with a 6350 before i bought my new CPU but i could game on 60+ fps no problem.
