Torn between 7700k or 8700

I am not sure which to go for.  I just need this for a digital audio workstation

benefits of sticking with a 7700k is price.  I am looking at 425 for my MOBO and 7700K processor

And for a z370 and 8700 I am looking at around 520.00

Is it worth paying more?  Any help is appreciated.   Thanks

No point spending almost 100$ more for virtually no performance difference. Either wait for cheaper Coffee Lake motherboards to come out in early 2018, or get the 7700K IMO.

I am far from an expert but even in games like PUBG which is super heavy to run my CPU is only running 50% and this is a 5year old 3930K OC to 3.8ghz.

So it seems to me that CPUs have not had the same big jump in Performance as GPU has had. I would save the money and focus more on GPU if you game.

I bought it for Rendering/FEM analysis back then but a high clock speed CPU is my recommendation. quad or six core. Six core is perhaps more justified these days. But if you have mobo allready that supports the older CPU it is likely the better value buy.

An extra $95 for 50% more CPU sounds like a good deal over the life of the system

Stock 7700k to an 8700, the 8700 is between 20-40% faster depending on your workload. You can overclock the 7700k to close the gap, but the 8700 will probably still be faster.

It would be nice if the new mobos coming out supported TB3 and in ITX format.  It would be nice to see MOBOs with a different set of features.  For instance I have professional soundcard, so I don't need any audio on my MOBO at all.  I would like to see ITX boards with more TB3 and USB-C ports and 2 m.2 ports.  Support 64gb of ram and have wifi and Bluetooth.  I don't need much else.  The market is unfortunately catering to gamers primarily.  Other people have other needs.  So I'd love to see these type of options on boards.

Back to the i7 7700k VS 8700 (non k)

You guys really think the performance is that much better.  The moderator was the only one who said it wasn't worth it.  Curious

I bought the 8700. There was a 70 dollar difference in the coolers so the price difference was closer to 50 bucks for me.

I'm using the latest version of cubase and use a lot of vst instruments and effects

Frankly speaking the i7 8700 would really be better but right now is not the best time to get it due to the lack of cheaper motherboards and the complete lack of the k variant... how much on a rush are you?
