So i made this list on PcPartsPicker and i wanna know what you think of it.

I won't build it quite yet but i just wanna know if it would work out and if you could play GTA on High or Medium with it.

I also wonder if there is a way to get it even cheaper without much performance loss and if you could make it more compact...

Thanks

go with a pentium g4560 or upgrade to a quad core i3 8000 series.

Haven't heard much good about the smart series psu... also 400W should be well enough.

Oh and you don't need that cpu cooler, you can go with the stock one.

Ok thanks for the idea, iwent to userbenchmark and compared the i3 7100t with the pentium g4560 and the i3 was just about 11% better so for the about 50$ less you get enough of it...

I still recommend not getting that cooler and a better power supply like a Corsair CX430 V2 430W it's certainly not the best you can get but you can get away with it.

Or maybe invest the money you save on the cooler into a better psu?

If you wanted a little bit more performance, then you could go with a core i3-8000 series, but you will have to spend the additional cost for a Z370 motherboard, but there are B360/H370 motherboards coming out in 2018 which support the locked coffeelake SKUs. If your only gaming, the dual core pentium G4560 will provide a decent amount of gaming performance, and GTA V is more of a CPU demanding game, there will still be a good amount of performance. Medium settings might be the best settings to play at for GTA V to get the most fps as possible.

SafeSonic SeaSonic or Grey label CX(m) is usually fine. I mean even the not as good green label CX PSUs are fine, but grey label is better...

The coffeelake i3-8000 series CPUs also bring 4 cores to the mainstream, which might help with GTA V. Also, the stock intel cooler is enough for this build when it comes to temps, but if your concerned about acoustics and thermals, then the aftermarket cooler is a viable option for this matter.

It just makes 4c/4t cheaper. Never a bad thing. 4c/4t already wasn't to terribly expensive but now that the i5 is 6c/6t we could see Ryzen gain a little more ground for its 6c parts having SMT where as you have to jump up to the i7 to get that.

Especially with the ryzen 3 1200, 4c/4t for $110 and supports overclocking, not a bad deal considering its price/performance. And with the release of B360/H370 motherboards coming out in 2018, it makes the locked coffeelake SKUs such as the i3-8100 a good budget processor which also has 4c/4t.

True, considering that more games are utilizing more threads.

For me, I really think the Ryzen line should start at the R5 1400 and R5 1500X and that those should be what the R3s are, but I get AMD's choice to have 4c/4t chips.

This is how I see it:

  • Ryzen 3: Entry level/Budget CPUs
  • Ryzen 5: Mainstream CPUs

It is interesting to note, the Athlon X4 950 isn't too much slower than an R3 1200 and that's basically the last iteration of Bulldozer/Pile driver, the Athlon.

@MineSwiss, If you wanted more performance, getting an R3 1200 with a B350 motherboard is another alternative and you also get the benefit of overclocking. And there is a lot of upgradability with the AM4 platform especially with socket AM4 being supported until 2020. I think the next gen intel CPUs might be backwards compatible with the current gen coffeelake socket (Z370+B360/H370).

its not the best but i would go for a better gpu and not a have a ssd. this way it also leaves you room to maybe add another ram stick or a ssd in the future if you want to but even without that 1060 i quite a bit ahead of a 1050ti so yeah...

This would be a decent upgrade in gaming performance and would give me some ram upgrade space, i will definitley change the psu and the ram but i dont know about the cpu gpu thing since the ryzen 3 would be much better in multitasking and a friend of mine has an gtx 1050ti and thus i know its enough for my "graphic desires". I might also change the storage situation to the caviar blue.

i agree about ryzen and my normal recommendation for this budget does include ryzen (https://geizhals.de/?cat=WL-872039) but since you wanted to go itx i couldnt figure out how to fit it in there, since the cheapest am4 itx board starts at 108 and the chip is also a bit more expensive

I compared an i3 8100 with an ryzen 3 1300x since those have about the same overall performance as shown here.

So in switzerland you pay less for the ryzen with mainboard than for the i3 with mainboard which means i get the same power for less and the AM4 motherboard i use here even supports higher RAM speeds. Funny thing is that 2666MHz RAM is cheaper in switzerland than 2133MHz (ca 20$) so i go for that one.

The Pentium would be optimal if i only wanted to game on it but i wanna multitask too even if it costs 60$ more...
