Ryzen 1700X on crosshair 6 extreme

Is this normal? I set it manual to 1.400. Why is my reading in CPU-Z and AIDA64 is 0.670-0.900. My temp is 70C+ in normal load. Am I missing something in BIOS settings. I am using current BIOS and using crosshair 6 extreme.

What I meant is the vcore stays at 0.6-0.90V.. I dont understand. I set it to 1.4V and it doesnt even reach more than 1.0V. My temps are 65-72C in normal loads.

Is there something I should do in BIOS?

Under load does the voltage shoot up? If you can run a stress test without crashing then your voltage is going up to 1.4V for sure otherwise you would crash and get a blue screen, especially considering it is OC at 3.8GHz.

See the range?

It will scale between based on how fast the CPU is clocking.

it won't apply 1.4v when it's downclocking to, say 2.7ghz, under regular load.

It should only even try to approach based on what the CPU actually needs.

I would love to know where you set that, since on my STRIX, I just did the dumb thing recently (AMD Ryzen Master does not seem to like the Fall Creators Update for Windows 10) and just manually set the CPU multiplier to 39X, as I know that's stable :)

I would use different software to track.

That doesn't really make any sense.

I wonder, are you running the latest BIOS? I know I just got a new BIOS update for my STRIX a couple of weeks back.

It could simply be a BIOS bug not feeding accurate information to Windows.

I am on latest BIOS.

HWInfo readings differ from Speccy and CPU-Z. Any comments on this settings? So far no freezing or crashing.

You need to account some kind of VDrop under load and CPU-Z/Speccy is showing wrong voltage, HWInfo somewhat right. If you have multimeter, try the points under 24Pin connector.

Don't buy Apple M1 computers with 8GB of RAM

You need to account some kind of VDrop under load and CPU-Z/Speccy is showing wrong voltae. If you have multimeter, try the points under 24Pin connector.

Yeah. Ive realized CPU-Z/Speccy aint accurate. I would rely more on HWinfo. I guess I am at 3.8Ghz @1.375V so far so good. I dont know if its worth it pushing towards 4.0Ghz. I dont believe it would be of a big difference in actual performance.

I am running 3.8ghz, well 3.88 to be exact because of the OC I have set up with a BCLK of 102. I use offset mode for voltage and have a + .035 which puts voltage around 1.38 at peak. I like this set up because at idle the voltage will drop down to like 1.3 and cpu to 3.4ghz

It keeps idle temps and low work load temps down in the 25-35 degree zone. At 100% load temps stay just under 70 degrees. I am using the Kraken x62. I also have increased LLC and SOC to level 2 and SOC voltage to 1.1. This helped with voltage dropping. Ram is at 2933mhz with a voltage of 1.35 and 16/16/16/35 timing. I did an aida64 stress test for several hours and have been running this set up for about a month now playing games and video editing. If you need any other help, there are a few other things you can tweak in bios like Global C-State and boot settings

Nice. I just had this setup for 2 days. All I did was set CPU multiplier to 38, BCLK 100, Manual Vcore 1.375, RAM @ 1.350, 15-15-15-36. Thats just about it. I cant push the thing to 4.0Ghz. I have to learn a lot about the bios settings of this board. Temps at full load around 71C max under HWInfo but in Speccy 83C. Id rely on HWinfo though. I think I have Global C state enabled. For LLC, SOC...etc. I left those things untouched as I still have little knowledge to what those things do. :)

well sounds like you are good to go for the most part. keep using it and if you don't get any crashes, you're all set

  • 3 weeks later...

the same thing happens on my crosshair vi hero with an amd 1600x, i have the voltage set to 1.25 on 3.8Ghz but cpu z and hw monitor show something bettwen 0.6 and 0.65. Its a false reading. Dont worry bout it if your system is stable.

Ignore CPU-Z, it rarely, if ever, shows Ryzen voltage correctly. Use HWMonitor or HWiNFO64 and focus on the CPU Core Voltage (SVI2 TFN) line to monitor your actual vcore. Also, focus on the CPU (Tdie) temperature as the Tctl temperature contains the +20c offset applied by AMD.

Even though this was posted two weeks ago, maybe you'll see it.

Disable Core Performance Boost bios option.

Look for an option called CPU Load-line Calibration. I think your options will be Levels 1-5 with Auto being Level 0 (lowest) and 5 being the extreme (highest). LLC attempts to counter voltage drops when hitting the CPU with a load. If the voltage drops too much the CPU will fail. Hitting 4GHz will hopefully only require more voltage. But you may be able to keep the voltage low and simply counter the vdroop with LLC.

If you're running your 1700X at 3.8GHz at 1.375V, try setting LLC to Level 2 and see if you can do 4GHz. Verify stability with Aida64's System Stability Test stressing CPU/FPU/Cache for at least 1 hour. If you receive a red screen failure warning, increase the voltage and/or LLC level and try again. You should be relatively safe going as high as 1.40v and LLC Level 3. Keep an eye on your CPU Tdie temperature. I'd recommend not going higher than 80c during stress test.

Please avoid LLC4 and 5. Some people may disagree, but my research has me afraid to recommend the higher, extreme levels of LLC. However, if you're happy with not hitting 4GHz (as I am), stick with 3.8 or 3.9.
