Recommended WIRELESS Gaming Headsets??

Hey guys,

I am looking to buy a wireless gaming headset, I currently just use earphones and the inbuilt mic on my laptop, but have alot of people complaining that the mic is too noisy and that it is not clear.

I have read alot of comments where people have just reocmmended to buy a decent pair of headphones, and get a modmic, however as there do not seem to be any wireless options for the mic, I do not think I will go this route.

My desk is very small and is cluttered easily, so I would definitely prefer a completely wireless solution, if you have any mic+headphones combo which is completely wireless I would be open to suggestions.

I will be using the headset mainly for gaming, I play a wide variety of games, but I feel for this aspect CSGO would be the game where the sound is most important. The footsteps and directional sound I think would be some of the important features aside from being wireless. I will also be using the headset for listening to a lot of music, so I guess the sound quality for music should be fine too, and while I do use the headset for movies, this will not be a crucial element. In regards to importance, Wireless > Game sounds/directional quality > Comfort > Mic quality > Music quality > Features > Build quality > Movie sound quality > Connectivity

In regards to the budget, I am looking for something between $150-$300, and with this price range I have already considered a few options.

I have looked at the Logitech headsets, and have considered both the G533 and the G933.

It seems between these two the sound quality will be identical, so I am more tempted towards the G533 because it is has a longer battery life, cleaner look, lighter (thus more comfortable?), and more affordable.

The G933 does have a wired option, which I highly doubt I'll ever use, and Bluetooth connectivity, which once again I doubt I'd use, however the only reason I am seriously considering this over the G533 is because of the mic quality, it seems that the mic on the G933 is way better than the G533. However that being said, there are alot of reviews and complaints online about the G933 having build quality issues, easily breaking/spoiling, as well as having issues connecting/disconnecting (both hardware and software faults), but am not sure to the truth behind this.

Looking at Steelseries, I have considered the Siberia 800 and the Arctis 7.

For the Siberia 800, the major selling point is the exchangeable battery, which for me will greatly reduce the clutter on my desk as I wont have a wire dangling from my pc whenever I am charging. The sound quality is said to be pretty decent as well however may be a bit soft? (not quite sure whats up with that), however these are quite expensive and people have said that it is a bit tight/small with regards to the cuffs (so might be uncomfortable), and also a lot of reviews have said that the mic quality is horrible

For the Arctis 7, I have heard comments that beyond gaming, the sound quality is quite bad, especially when looking at the surround sound, compared to the Logitech it apparently is nowhere near as good. Also comments of the sound being very flat and that the mic can be quite muffled.

Finally, the last few I have looked at are the Astro A50, as well as corsair H2100 and corsair void.

For the Astro, I have read alot of reviews saying that while the sound is amazing, the mic is horrendous, as well as software issues and a lot of build quality issues, with hardware failing. However I do like the vase station charging and headphone holder/stand as it will definitely reduce the unsightly wires dangling around my desk.

For the corsair h2100, there seems to be comments  relating to a static noise, as well as it falling apart and breaking and generally not very good feedback, despite having good reviews, so I am not too sure about these, although a lot have mentioned that they are similar to the G533 at a lower price point, but I am not too sure if that is the case. The fit is also apparently not very good and the headphones can slide off easily?

For the corsair void, I have heard similar issues regarding the fit, and it becoming extremely uncomfortable to wear for extended periods of time as well as comments regarding the headphone easily sliding off.

Any recommendations, comments or feedback regarding these headsets, or any other headsets or options I may go for will eb greatly appreciated! thank you!

whoever said astros sound amazing probably upgraded from the $5 headset that comes with consoles, the Hyper X clouds sound better than all of these but then again they do so because they are rebranded Takstar Pro 80's with a few upgrades like detatchable cables and better ear pads

the only gaming headset ive seen with that level of clarity are the Razer Thresher Ultimate which are open back for a very wide soundstage and razer seems to have at least invested some into the audio instead of just the looks, they sound better than all of what you have listed and have much higher quality earpads than your options, they retail for $250

Oh I did see these, I compeltely forgot to mention that I was only considering these. However I have had a bad experience with razer stuff in the past. And from the reviews it seemed that these were really heavy and did not have any software or strong pc support. So while it is usable on a pc, I think that these headphones were more created for console use? Do correct me if I am wrong

they work equally on both although they dont have all the customization the others do, it depends on how you weigh the features, if you value sound and comfort most then these are the best of the crop, if you favor looks and features more then what you're looking for is subjective to your own need, i wouldnt touch any post 2012 razer keyboards or mice but their headsets and other peripherals are built well, enough for me to sign up to reserve a razer phone

Hey man, I've done more research into the razer thresher ultimate, and you're right these look pretty amazing.

At the moment I have scrapped all the others and am considering between this and the Asus Rog Strix wireless.

Do you have any opinions or advice, or reasons why I should go with the razer over this Asus?

I own 2 pairs of Astro's the gen 2 A50's and the new gen 3. I have also had the g933 artemis spectrum the G930, and the Razer Krakens. I brought the Kraken's back due to the small size of the earcups and they felt tighter on my head than what I liked.

The G933's I bought to use for college work as they have a smaller wireless footprint compared to the Astro's. I have had the Gen2 astros for about 4 years and have really enjoyed them.

I bought the G930's before I bought the Astros and felt they were a bit on the tinny side and wanted a bit more bass in the headset. The overall range of the 930 and the 933 was a bit better than the Astro gen 2 or gen 3.

As far as sound goes I think they sound great for what they are, I'd like to get at the least a better Mic as I know it is pretty crap, which is sad as the astros are 300$ USD. You'd think at that price you would get a great mic but not really.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck on your hunt :)

Thank you CCM1092 for your reply. Yes the a50 3rd gen and g933 are both part of my serious considerations, however it seems that with all three the mic does suck, which does pose a problem especially considering their price.

Thank you seduce_me for your reply. While I do agree and see that the general consensus is that the wireless gaming headsets suck are overpriced, i feel like i do not really have much choice seeing my set up. Saying that, it seems that the razer thresher ultimate really has some amazing reviews in terms of both sound quality and mic quality. While there is no synapse/eq options, if the flat is well enough tuned, I do not see myself needing the eq adjustments in the first place, or I may look into getting an amp, does that work? However the other major downfall is that there is no mic monitoring, as I have never used gaming headsets before, is this and issue? Is it a big deal that I should care about?

You are welcome sir.
my main reason for getting the Astro's years ago was I was on my laptop and didn't want a bunch of cables on my bed, However, Now that I have a nice setup that I have worked hard work and whatnot I want to get a studio grade headsets and Mic. I did just get an AKG wireless professional mic from a friend of mine for a trade for a laptop I had fixed. And I use that out in my workspace when I record (for a cleaner audio sound, not used it on stream yet though) with a decent sound board. I understand space limitations when it comes to wires. You mind posting a picture of your setup and maybe we can think of another solution that would provide a wired setup?

Hi,

I am sorry for the late reply, I was quite busy running errands, as I am still completing the build. At the moment the space is still incomplete, but I am sure these pictures will give you a rough idea of the space that I'm working with and the kind of constraints it has.

The PC has not arrived yet but will be placed behind the monitor at the far right, small footprint but tall, the phanteks shift x. The cables are for internet, hdmi for the TV and audio cable to speaker set.

I hope it helps!

I just bought the Arctis 7, had for about 3 weeks now.  I've owned one Steelseries headset (Siberia 3, analog) before and, compared to it, the Arctis 7 is very flat.  The Siberia was tuned for a bit more boomy bass, but the Arctis 7 is so neutral that is comes across as boring, but that's not a bad thing.  The included EQ in the software can help bring out some of the dynamics a little more if there is a sound signature you prefer.  It's very balanced and actually handles various content very well.

Also, don't waste your time with simulated "surround sound".  Game engines these days already do a fantastic job of applying spatial audio filters for a stereo mix to give you a sense of directionality (they're already basically doing virtual surround).  The drivers are better than the DAC and amp that are driving them, I've driven them over a wired connection using an Audioengine D3 DAC/amp and they sound better.  However, this is a wireless gaming headset where efficiency matters so there are bound to to be compromises on the DAC and amp to favor battery life and let me tell you, battery life is great.  They last me about 2 weeks on average, with an hour or two of gaming and or listening to music every night and they charge up pretty fast.

The mic is acceptable to good, not great.  It's loud enough, it does a great job only transmitting my voice and nothing else in the room or any background noise.  The software offers some compression to help balance out the transmitted volume if you tend to go between quiet and loud when speaking.  People will have no trouble hearing you loud and clear, but don't expect studio quality recording.

Lastly, build quality.  These things are solid, the metal headband and skiband fit are really snug and comfortable.  The ear cushion fabric breathes very well so your ears won't get sweaty.  The matte finish is nice and everything about the unit feels well put together.  You can also use the receiver as a mixer for an additional input and as a sound card for your speakers (it will automatically disable speaker output when you turn the headset on).  On the ear game/chat mix is super useful.

All in all they're very well rounded and I'm pretty pleased with my purchase.

Hey shred bird,

Thank you so much for your reply! I was actually very seriously considering the arctis 7 for a very long time, however have heard a few issues with the sound quality. As you mentioned it can be quite flat. Has adjusting the eq helped you? What about when using to listen to music? Other than csgo I usually have music playing in the background while I game.

It depends on your preferences I suppose.  I generally appreciate a flat EQ.  My go to headphones are a pair of Etymotic IEMs which are the definition of flat, lol.

The EQ does do a pretty good job to get them to be more aggressive without muddling up the sound.  I recently suggested them to a friend whose go-to pair of headphones are some Beyer Dynamics and he seemed pretty pleased with the way the Arctis 7 sounded (he liked the fit too, and how light they are).

They are fine for music, I use them all the time for music while working at my desk.  I'm the kind of guy who will sit and listen to high resolution FLACs with my DAC and IEMs and I don't find the Arctis 7 lacking.

SteelSeries used to do a 30 day try before you buy.  I don't know if they do that anymore, but that might be something to look for on their website.
