So my birthdays coming up and the grandparents have got me a precision t1500 for its Quadro 600 (3d rendering for Photography etc) and I want to upgrade it all. It's running an i7-870 (quad core), 6gb ddr3, 1tb 3gbps, and the quadro 600. It has 2 SATA 3gbps ports, so I can get another 3gbps. Is tehre a splitter though on the market so I can fit two?

Onto the GPU - I'm a gamer, so I want to game of course. The quadro is awful for gaming, so what can I do for that? What shall I get? I'm going to have to buy another PSU as this is a 250w.

I'm getting another 2 gig of ram (although the mobo fits 16gb)

CPU - the 870 cpu seems to be about the best 1st gen (1156) for gaming, but I wanna double check with yall.

Thanks in advance.

A GTX 1050/Ti or an RX560 without an additional power connector should be enough for basic gaming.

Don't bother getting more RAM, 2GB isn't going to make much difference.

Before you get a PSU, make sure the motherboard doesn't use any proprietary connectors

the CPU is pretty decent still, drop in a 1050TI and you are done basically, id look into upgradeing the PSU but a 1050TI wont need it to be upgraded seeing as its a 75W card

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

should play most things on medium-high 1080p 60+, the 1050TI is quite a powerfull card actiually. i was blown away by how capable mine has proved to be even when it was held back by the shitty, underclocked and undervolted, FX6300. il know better once the Toasters motherboard finishes RMA, but from what i have heard, seen and tested this card can play most things pretty well actiually, especially for a 75W card :D

1050 ti, no larger psu required... ok

but make sure you have atleast 12gb of ram if you play AAA Titles.

Also overclock your i7, get a pure rock slim if all you currently have is an intel stock cooler

i5 4670k @ 4.3Ghz 1.25v

Asrock Fatal1ty H87 Performance (with non-Z oc)

2x8gb 1600mhz DDR3

GTX 1060 6gb (modded no power limit) 2100mhz core / 4650mhz memory

be quiet! pure power L8 730W

120gb 850evo + 1TB SSHD

i thought the 1. gen had no locked chips...

just did some 1 minute google research and it seems im right...

it depends on the mobo, but i dont think intel had any OC limiting chipsets eighter, so even though its an oem theres a chance he can overclock...

The cpu is soldered and a pure rock slim should allow some decent oc, and its easy to install too :)

a naming scheme like

i7 7700 (locked)

i5 7600K (unlocked)

i5 7600 (locked)

i5 7500 (locked)

i5 7400 (locked)

like that, but your cpu is overclockable if you motherboard allows it, so try it...

but before you start, make sure youre not only using the intel stock cooler, and remember you wont see any difference in games until you swapp out your gpu for that 1050 ti

just for fun btw. http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-Quadro-600-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1050-Ti/m8084vs3649

And regarding this "2GB isn't going to make much difference" bs up there, its about having enough, or not...

it mith aswell be a 0.5gb difference deciding between hit or shit, so 8gb for most games is a must, for AAA Titles even that is pretty tight to not enough already, 12gb will do just fine there... 16gb is to be save.

Explain what naming scheme means and I'll answer you.

Naming scheme is when a product is named that has different usability

Example

Core i7/i5 with K at the end are unlocked and can be overclocked

But the T name are usually the low powered one

Thought that about the RAM, I'm getting it from the place I bought this system from and he wants maybe £5 so its nothing. The 1050ti is actually really surprising to me with this Benchmarks, for £160 I never expected what I saw, jeez.
