So this build is done, I think I did fairly well. This build is going to play AAA title games at 1440p and possibly some VR games in the future. The reason why I have 2 HDDs is because one is for storing games and such, the other is for recording gameplay. I also have a SSD in my current build I can bring over to this new one which is why I left one out. I wanted this build to be fairly cheap, but the main thing is that this PC can play high end games and last a few years at least. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated, basically anywhere I can save money without sacrificing quality or the longevity of the PC is what I'm looking for, however if I need a beefier CPU, then I could consider getting the i7-8700K if I really needed it. Thanks guys.

If you go for the 8700K then I would suggest swapping the cooler for something like this:

Otherwise, the 8700K is up to you, if you play a lot of games that can take advantage of the hyper threading then it would definitely be worth it.

I don't know if I NEED 6TB, hopefully not, but better safe then sorry when recording in 1440p, who knows how fast the memory would fill up. And I have a SSD from my old PC I'm putting into this one, I mentioned that in the post.

I do play a lot of games, but not much else, do you think an i7 is worth the extra $150 for 1440p gaming?

I'm pretty sure that both i5 and i7, when OCed @4.8GHz or more will have same performance on gaming (that's why you would buy a K chip, right?!).

For most games, and at 165 Hz, the 8400 is fine. You could also get a cheaper motherboard, and drop the 212 (which you should do anyway; the 212 isn't great).

I think there are cheaper 3TB HDDs. Just make sure they're 7200 RPM and with 64MB cache.

Not my case of choice for that price, but cases are subjective, so you do you.

The Strix 1080 Ti has a better VRM and a much better cooler for $15 more than the Gigabyte card.

550W is plenty, even if you overclock. The Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 750W is available for ~$80, if you want that.

I think you can get cheaper 27" 165Hz 1440p G-sync IPS monitors.

:)

If I could get a cheaper monitor but get the same performance that would be great.
