You have to decide yourself if 550W is enough power for your build.

Rosewill is a decent brand, it's not top-end but it'll do the job and in certainly better than some unbranded crappy PSU.

Cool... I know its old... I don't I would ever get to anything near 550w.

No.  Just stop.  You have no idea what you're talking about.  Rosewill just means "Newegg house brand" and comes in a full gamut of qualities.  This particular one isn't even one they'd dare sell separately.  It came bundled with a Rosewill case.

It's a HORRIBLE PSU.

Here's why....

Made 10 years ago by the now defunct Wintech.  Wasn't good 10 years ago.  Surprised it hasn't exploded yet.

All Chinese caps.   Most of which are rated at 85°C.  Best many are swollen.

No PFC.  Not even passive.  Just none.

Double forward, group regulated topology.  It has no 80 PLUS rating because it's about 75% efficient.  Awful voltage regulation under cross loads.

No DC to DC which means it won't support ANY of the moders sleep states that Haswell and newer platforms use.

Sleeve bearing fan.  Surprised it still spins.  If ti does spin, surprised it doesn't sound like a rock tumbler.

I can probably go on and on.  But it's actually ILLEGAL in MOST countries to even sell this level of crap anymore.

Also, I am getting closer to my build.... I have the PS, Ram, SSD and DVD player..... Just need a motherboard and CPU.

And you're going to either KILL all those new parts or have a fit troubleshooting why it doesn't run properly if you use this old paper weight.

THROW THAT GARBAGE OUT.

If you're OK with a housefire in the next year or two then sure, it's a good PSU. If you're more cozy with the idea of not having to make an unfortunate call to your home insurance company then I would highly suggest getting something that isn't that PSU. If you could list your system specs then that would help us greatly.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Rosewill is a shit brand.

No.  It's not.  There's some REALLY GOOD Rosewill parts out there.  But there's also a lot of shit.

That particular unit is old AND shitty.

Here's examples of GOOD Rosewill PSUs (within the last few years since PSU technology changes):

Thanks everyone for there advice.... I just want  a AM3+ build.... Nothing high end.... Just to causally play games like CS:GO and other games similar...

Doesn't mean that old PSU isn't going to kill all your new hardware.

So no graphics card?  Going to use the built in graphics?

Then you just need a good < 500W PSU.  But not that one in your PC now.

So you not gonna replace the PSU?
Well, save money for new hardware because PSU can (and will) kill everything...

Maryland, USA... AMD motherboard/FX-8350 and now a PSU Budget... Is $250 US unrealistic????

The CX550M will do at the cheap end. TX550M may be cheaper when on sale - in that case go for that. Other units are good too such as EVGA G2/G3 or SeaSonic FOCUS Plus Gold.
