Vega 56 vs. 1070Ti

I just recently started planning a new build for a friend, as a gaming PC with some light content creation, and I am selecting a GPU at the moment. Both the 1070Ti and Vega 56 seem like solid choices, but I can't decide which would work best for the money. Am going with a Ryzen 1700 for the CPU, in case that helps. I'm leaning towards the Vega atm, but I'd like some input on answering the infernal Team Red vs. Team Green question.

I prefer the green team, so I would get the 1070 ti

All the benchmarks i've seen show it being just about equal to the Vega 56

Really? I haven’t seen many benchmarks yet but I was under the impression it was as good as a 1080.

Unless you're fine with high noise output, I would go 1070 or 1080.

 

1070 ti isn't that great imo

I think the memory holds it back. OCed it pretty much starts to match a stock 1080 with an aftermarket cooler.

1070 ti isn't that great imo

Don't have the money for a 1080, looking for something a touch better than a 1070

Watch the LTT video on it. In all their benchmarks it either equaled or was slightly beaten by the Vega

In that case I guess 1070 ti is ok, 56 if you're fine with more noise.

Noise actually is somewhat of a factor for me, yeah, but power is more important. Is there any real power difference between the two? I figured a 56 would be better for my purposes, as I'm running with Ryzen for my CPU.

56 definitely draws more power than the 1070 ti.

 

I would say 56, except... there aren't any custom cards out

And wow still no custom cards? Definitely 1070Ti. Probably gonna get the EVGA SC Gaming ACX. Love me some EVGA cards

Yeah, I woulda gone for a 56 for that perf/$ and freesync, but no custom cards until November at the earliest has put me off and I'm probably gonna wait for Volta/Navi, seeing as my 970 is still pulling strong.

RIP Vega man. First it was supply shortages, now it's lack of custom cards.
