Is this a good mid-range gaming setup?

Intel Core i5 7400 - LGA1151 - 7th Generation Core Desktop Processor (LGA1151, 3.0Ghz Upto 3.5Ghz Turbo, 6MB Cache)

Gigabyte GA-H110M-S2 Socket LGA 1151 Motherboard (Black)

HyperX FURY Black 8 GB CL15 DIMM DDR4 2400 MT/s Internal Memory (HX424C15FB2/8)

Corsair Builder Series CX500 Power Supply

ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1050 Ti mini ZT-P10510A-10L 4GB GDDR5 PCI Express Graphics Card

Is it better than - http://www.pcgamer.com/build-guide-the-best-cheap-gaming-pc/

BTW I'll probably never play in 1080p. I always play in 720p with AA off

You should probably go with the i5 8400 and wait for B360 boards to come out.

Save up for the 8400 then, B360 boards aren't out yet so you have time to save.

The The 1050ti is a nice GPU, goes nicely with 7400. I can get about 30-40 FPS in Ghost recon Wildlands @ 1440p medium settings.

Why are you handicapping yourself at 720p though? It seems kinda goofy especially if your hardware can handle 1080p decently.

Don't get the 7400. Get a Ryzen 1200 and a 1060, or a 1600 and a 1060. Use the extra power to downsample, since you're playing at such a low resolution.

Don't get the CX500. Either get the CX450 or CX550. Depending on what's available, the Vengeance or Pure Power 10 might cost around the same.

:)

I'll stick with HyperX, price margin is slightly high.

I don't understand the PSU part....

The old CX series is pretty bad. And the units usually cost the same as better units

I currently have a VS650 - it's bad I know. CX series is the only alternative here.

Suggest a Cooler Master PSU perhaps....

V series, Masterwatt Maker MIJ and V semi modular. Just use the PSU tier list, and pick a tier 1-3

How about - Seasonic M12II EVO Series 520W ?

It's a really old, group regulated design. It's tier 4 in the list, but it should be a little better than the CX500. Are there no tier 1-3 PSUs available for a decent price?

Sadly, No.... :-(

BTW, all Ryzen sockets are same, right?

Ryzen is only compatible with the socket AM4, and with the chipsets X370, B350 (sometimes called AB350), A320 and X300 (there are no actual boards with the last chipset).

So finally, I think my setup is "good"

And the fact that I cannot find a decently rated AM4 motherboard for ryzen, at similar cpu+motherboard price range.
