Motherboard (Z370) Question

Hi friends,

This community has been a wealth of knowledge for me and my building of my very first PC. I know this isn't the planning and building section but I wanted to ask people specifically about motherboards and perhaps RAM.

My question is this: What do? I know absolutely N O T H I N G of motherboards. I was originally going to get the AORUS gaming 5 from gigabyte, but with further consideration and feedback, I shifted my build into the ASRock K6 even though once I began looking into building, I read that ASRock was a cheap ripoff of ASUS.

What do you guys think? My prospective build is here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PmXkVY

And for context, I will be using this PC for mostly gaming, and mixing & recording music using the pro tools software. I don't plan on overclocking anything immediately, but want the capability to do so when I feel more confident in that department in the future.

Thank you!

P.S.: I don't know if it really matters other than considering RAM clearance with my cooler, but what would you guys think about the RAM I chose? I have no opinion on brands of RAM so I'd rather ask you experienced fellows versus going in blind.

What is your budget for the Motherboard?

If at first you don't succeed...

Call it version 1.0

I would hope to not go over $200. My overall budget was $2000 but that went out the window with the monitor.

You could take a look at Asus - ROG STRIX Z370-F GAMING.

Why didn't you get a 1080ti?

Your motherboard seems fine

I would consider a Ti, but I don't know if that'd be overkill for my build and what my monitors can do. I'd love one, don't get me wrong, but I don't know how much more bang for the buck I'd get versus a normal 1080.

Also, would the ASRock z370 K6 be compatible with the LPX DDR4-3000 RAM I've chosen? On PCPartPicker it skips over the 3000 memory and goes straight from 2933 to 3200.

It says the following:

MEMORY TYPE

DDR4-2133 / 2400 / 2666 / 2800 / 2933 / 3200 / 3600 / 3733 / 3800 / 3866 / 4000 / 4133 / 4266 / 4333

So I'm unsure if I should choose a different speed of RAM?

Yes it will work.

Intel have great IMC in those CPUs, so memory support is not issues.

And about motherboard ... just about any of those over 150$ will be more than fine.

Intel i7 12700K | Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X DDR4 | Pure Loop 240mm | G.Skill 3200MHz 32GB CL14 | CM V850 G2 | RTX 3070 Phoenix | Lian Li O11 Air mini

Samsung EVO 960 M.2 250GB | Samsung EVO 860 PRO 512GB | 4x Be Quiet! Silent Wings 140mm fans

Well my question was about the particular motherboard's compatibility with the RAM; the ASRock z370 K6 says it's compatible with DDR4-2133 / 2400 / 2666 / 2800 / 2933 / 3200 / 3600 / 3733 / 3800 / 3866 / 4000 / 4133 / 4266 / 4333 speeds. I was asking if the 3000 RAM would work in the board that explicitly skips that speed of RAM.

Yes it will work.

I'm just not sure if it will run at 2933 or 3000MHz. Regardless, you won't notice any difference.

And you can always OC that RAM to 3200MHz anyway. But again I don't think it's worth the strugle of testing stability for that since you can't notice difference between 2933-3000-3200MHz anyway.

But as far as compatibility goes ... yeah it will work for sure.
