Thermal Issues (?)

No, They are well within reasonable limits for SFF gaming. It may get a little on the loud side, but thats what headphones are for right?

So I've had my new PC for about a week now. The last desktop that I owned and ran hard was sold about a year ago and had an i7 5820k with a H100i and a GTX 980ti. My new system is: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/xxvolwarexx/saved/xHDZ8d

I'm pretty careful to watch my temperatures and I'm not liking what I see. Idling I am generally fine, but in HWMonitor, my temps randomly bounce around when opening software, etc. This is reportedly normal (?) (don't remember seeing that on my old system).

Secondly, when playing Battlefield 1 (with a basic 1080p monitor), I am getting my GPU up to the 80s and the CPU can sometimes hit 78-83C. I believe that the thermal paste was applied properly. My question is, is there something wrong here? What can I do to fix these temps? Obviously they are not ideal or even safe in the long term. Do I tear my hardware out of this case AGAIN just to build in a different case? Or is my CPU sub-par? I got it from Overclockers UK and it was an "OEM chip" LINK:https://www.overclockers.co.uk/intel-core-i5-8600k-3.6ghz-coffee-lake-socket-lga1151-processor-oem-cp-644-in.html

Please help. Right now I'm using the system and my temps seem great. Im sitting with 35-37 idling and snapping to 45 in random spikes when opening multiple tabs and software. This is fine. Its those times where I hit those 80s that freak me out. I uploaded a video of me running AIDA 64 for ya'll to see the core temp jumping around. The loud fan noise is not the PC fyi, that is a normal house fan.

Cheers!

coffee lake has serious heat issues, and that cooler really isn't that great. A cryorig h7 or cooler master hyper 212 should suffice

those temps are fine.  you might consider a better cooler if you really want better temps, but other than that, you're fine.

Based on what I can find, nobody else is hitting such high temperatures... I have a decent cooler too, its the Cryorig C1

Those temps are actually quite normal on SFF builds honestly as there is not much air flow. If you took the side panel off I bet temps would decrease dramatically. Lack of air flow in SFF builds really are what does them in. You have great parts, just held back a bit.

those temps sound pretty normal to me. if you take into mind that the space those components are in is very small, the heat has more trouble to go away.

I bet you are right! I may try and actually mod the side panel to give a little more breathing room to the case

True. However, do you think I am in any real risk of damaging anything?

Generally on SFF builds you want to go with a reference/blower style cooler to prevent the open air coolers like the custom one you have from venting inside the case driving temps up even more. But hindsight is 20/20 and something to keep in mind for future builds you may do inside SFF.

i dont think so, temps won't damage components (as the pc will shut itself down before the temps can harm the components), only high voltage will damage components, but over an extremely long time you will notice it. i have my i5 at a max of 75 celcius and my gpu as well, both are good temps. (take in mind that my case is a lot bigger than yours)

sorry, I forgot to check your case...

I am not! Based on the size of the case, the only fans that I have are the GPU fans and the CPU fan

you need to get some airflow through that sucker

I believe that the Cryorig C1 IS a blower style as its blowing down at the board itself. However, I could try and simply reverse the fan so it blows outside of the case and see if temperatures are any better. What do you think? More importantly, do you think there is serious longevity risk with those temps?

no, they meant the gpu, like founders cards are blower style.

This darn case is so great for portability but has NO, I repeat NO breathing room.

open a side panel and cover it with pantyhose or something

Ohhh, yeah good point. I do have vent ports at the top of the case, but that is no replacement for a dedicated fan. As long as I'm not at risk of actually DAMAGING anything, then I'm not worried. I may modify the side panel or something however.

no, no.. not the CPU cooler, the GPU cooler. Instead of getting an AIB card like you did with the EVGA card, you should have gotten a reference design card. This will prevent air from venting into the case from the Graphics card and will intake the air, and blow it directly out the back of the case.

No, They are well within reasonable limits for SFF gaming. It may get a little on the loud side, but thats what headphones are for right?

Fair enough! That's relieving to hear. I will play around with the case, but if there is no real risk to damaging my hardware, then I'm not going to keep (literally) losing sleep over it!

Thank you!
