I'm confused & frustrated. I just purchased all the parts for my new build. The guy who's helping me put it together almost INSISTS on putting the 2 SK hynix - SL308 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drives in a raid. (still learning so forgot if he said 0 or 1) for a boot drive then using my 1TB HDD as main storage for my games, files and pictures. Which would be the extent of my computer usage for this build. No streaming or fancy video editing etc just recreational use.

So!!!...… I've been reading up on this and everything I can find says raiding is a bad idea due to the risk of data losses. Is there a BETTER WAY to make use of all 3 drives or should I just return the 2 small SSD (SK hynix - SL308 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive) and go to ONE 250 or 500 gb SSD??

Please try to keep your answer to a kindergarten Level LoL. That way I can understand.  Also facts are more helpful than opinions!!

Thanks

It's generally cheaper to get one 500Gb SSD instead of 2 250Gb SSDs

Your 1TB drive is fine as a standalone for data.

RAIDing the SSDs is pointless. All you will install on the SSD is the OS, and any programs. All data goes on  the spinner.

RAID is fine for data, but the drives need to be the same size for max effectiveness. This does not apply in your case.

Return 1 SSD and save some money.

You should keep 1 SSD for games and the HDD for other things.

RAID 1 is useful if you don't want data loss, since the data is copied to the drives. The flipside is you only get the capacity of one drive. RAID 0 is useful if you want pure performance, but if one of those drives dies, you lose the entire array.

Assuming you don't already have the drives, just get one larger capacity drive. Loading performance doesn't appreciably improve past SATA speeds anyway.

Thanks ?. I would consider returning both SSD's in favor of spending an extra $33 for this one.
